Raytheon and General Dynamics joint venture awarded U.S. Air Force Launch and Test Range Contract

From Raytheon:

Raytheon and General Dynamics joint venture awarded U.S. Air Force Launch and Test Range Contract

DULLES, Va.Jan. 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Air Force has awarded one of its most important space procurements, potentially a multi-billion-dollar contract to operate, maintain, and sustain launch ranges at Florida's Space Coast and Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, to a joint venture of Raytheon (NYSE: RTN) and General Dynamics.
The joint venture, called Range Generation Next (RGNext) is responsible for operations, as well as organizational and depot-level maintenance and sustainment for safe and effective launch, testing, and tracking of Department of Defense, civil, commercial, and international spacelift vehicles. It will also support ballistic missile, guided weapon, and aeronautical tests and evaluations.
The $1.5 billion, single-award contract has a one-year base period with nine one-year options. Raytheon and General Dynamics formed RGNext to pursue the opportunity, known as the U.S. Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center's Launch and Test Range System (LTRS) Integrated Support (LISC) contract, supporting the U.S. Air Force Space Command.
Existing operations and maintenance at the Eastern and Western launch ranges and the engineering and sustainment work for the entire LTRS are being consolidated into LISC, primarily a fixed-price-incentive firm (target) contract.
"Together, Raytheon and General Dynamics offer the U.S. Air Force more than 40 years of operations and maintenance experience, along with leadership across information technology domains," said Lynn Dugle, president of Raytheon Intelligence, Information and Services. "In this cost-sensitive environment, LISC will deliver efficiencies and economies of scale that could not be obtained under separate contracts. Our team is eager to play its part in helping the customer ensure safe mission operations."
"As part of this proven team, General Dynamics Information Technology will leverage lessons learned and proven processes to ensure the ranges continue as the nation's premier launch facilities," said Dan Johnson, president of General Dynamics Information Technology.

VINCI PLC Constructs Campus Wide Unified Communications and Application Delivery Platform With Brocade

Press release:

VINCI PLC Constructs Campus Wide Unified Communications and Application Delivery Platform With Brocade

Leading Construction and Facilities Firm Selects Brocade ICX 6450 Campus LAN Switches and BROCADE Ethernet Fabric to Enable Microsoft Lync and Building Information Modeling Deployment
LONDON--(Marketwire - Sep 18, 2012) - The £122 billion UK construction industry, employing over 3.1 million people across 350,000 businesses1, relies on close collaboration and effective sharing of data intensive files and assets between multiple partners on any given project. To support a Unified Communications (UC) environment across its sites, which can be extended to partners and contractors, and to facilitate the delivery of Building Information Modeling (BIM) across its construction projects, VINCI PLC selected a fabric-based, unified campus networking solution from Brocade® (NASDAQ:BRCD).
VINCI PLC, part of the global VINCI conglomerate -- a world leader in concessions and construction, is involved in a number of major construction programs with its partners, including the Kings Cross Station Re-development, Nottingham Tram system expansion, and some of the UK's most familiar landmark projects in locations such as London. To extend network intelligence, scalability and resilience across its networks, and deliver a consistently high Quality of Experience (QoE) to staff, partners and contractors, VINCI PLC selected a Brocade Ethernet fabric and campus network solution. Presented by systems integrator CoolSpirit, the solution both met VINCI PLC's immediate needs, while providing a blueprint for the future.
Brocade ICX 6450 Campus Network switches were selected to enable effortless networking; providing a high performance, yet simple to manage and scale, campus network. Brocade ICX stackable switches deliver unprecedented levels of availability and flexibility by combining the capabilities of a chassis with the flexibility and cost-effectiveness of a stackable switch. This unique approach helps ensure an optimal user experience for streaming video, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), UC and other mission-critical applications. Brocade ServerIron® ADX Series switches were also chosen to provide the high availability, security and scalability required to support Microsoft Lync in a virtualized environment.
Ben Paddick, Technical Design Architect, at VINCI PLC explains, "Time and again, VINCI PLC is praised for its ability to work in partnership and as part of a team to deliver a project. We wanted an end-to-end solution that enabled us to collaborate more effectively with partners, and supported BIM across projects so we can offer improved service to customers, project efficiency and risk management. The right network solution was key."
Recognising how important it is to establish the right foundation, whether building a superstore or an IT infrastructure, they also selected Brocade VDX™ 6730 Data Center switches with Virtual Cluster Switching (VCS™) technology, to enable a high performance Ethernet fabric that provides the low-latency, auto-healing resilience required to support VINCI PLC's virtualised data centre environment.
"We needed 10 Gigabit Ethernet performance as capacity was strained, but we weren't ready for a full refresh and wanted to deploy Microsoft Lync campus-wide, with a plan to offer this as a hosted solution to other divisions and partners. The Brocade solution offered a perfect fit for our demands," Paddick concluded.
Marcus Jewell, Country Manager UK and Ireland, at Brocade said, "Enterprises are increasingly looking to their campus networks to deliver better efficiencies and services to improve business functionality. UC and virtualized environments can provide significant business benefits, but are very latency-sensitive and so require Ethernet fabric and Application Delivery solutions to be deployed effectively. VINCI PLC understands the importance of clear and open communications, and developing a strong, dependable infrastructure to serve as the foundation. They have reflected those values clearly in their choice of Brocade as their network infrastructure provider."
About Brocade Unified Campus SolutionsToday's enterprise campus networks are expected to deliver services thought impossible just a few years ago. Video conferencing, real-time collaboration, distance learning, and virtual desktop integration are just a few of the applications that organizations are deploying to enhance employee productivity, improve customer service, and create a competitive advantage. Press release:

CUSTOMER WIN: Comverge Lights Up Business Performance with BMC Remedyforce

BMC’s cloud service desk solution helps reduce costs and increase business efficiency

SAN FRANCISCO – SALESFORCE.COM DREAMFORCE – Sept. 18, 2012 – For intelligent energy management solutions provider Comverge, cutting costs and increasing efficiencies across its IT functions were important goals. The organization realized an opportunity to lower costs while enabling more efficient IT processes by replacing its existing IT service desk application with a more modern cloud based solution.
The company selected the Remedyforce Service Desk solution from BMC Software (NASDAQ: BMC).
“The [cost structure] of the solution we previously had actually charged ’per user’,” said Danielle Bailey, Comverge IT Manager. “As we grew, that expense continued to grow, even though it wasn’t providing us the same ROI per person. One of the reasons we went with Remedyforce is that we wanted to be able to reduce that cost.”
Bailey added, “Because Remedyforce is web-based, everybody can access it. It’s great. The end-users say that Remedyforce is a lot easier for them to use and to share with others. We have been able to show where IT is actually starting to save money by increasing efficiency and productivity.”
The Challenge
In efforts to cut IT expenses while improving efficiency, Comverge needed a cost-effective service desk solution that would support new processes and enable superior communications at all levels of the organization.
The Solution
Comverge chose BMC to reduce costs, improve efficiency, and enable better collaboration among service technicians and with upper management. BMC also provided better change management controls, allowing Comverge to more easily comply with industry regulations.
Benefits
BMC’s cloud-based solution offered Comverge improved mobile capabilities and change management tracking. It also provided robust collaboration among peers to help them resolve problems faster and improved communication with senior executives. Comverge has experienced a number of additional benefits by implementing the Remedyforce product, including:
  • Reduction of IT support costs by $50,000 annually through improved software cost structure to a subscription model versus a license model
  • Increased efficiency for field technicians through the use of mobile apps for ticket logging
  • Improved reporting and communication with senior managers related to incidents and ongoing resource needs
  • Enhanced Sarbanes-Oxley compliance related to improved change management tracking and workflows
At Dreamforce 2012
BMC will offer a preview of new product features to its Remedyforce Service Desk solution at Dreamforce 2012. New product features include major integrations with asset management features found in BMC FootPrints to help IT help desk technicians resolve end-user issues faster. New release management features to existing ITIL processes allow IT organizations greater visibility and control to manage multiple changes and tasks to enterprise-wide application updates for customers. Finally, over 50 customer-suggested enhancements focused on reducing time to value and improving overall end-user satisfaction have been added to the new release of Remedyforce.
The new features are expected to be available for customers later this calendar year, in the November timeframe.
Read a BMC blog for more detailed information about the new product updates.

GE Healthcare IT Showcases its Latest Innovations at HIMSS Singapore

Press release:

GE Healthcare IT Showcases its Latest Innovations at HIMSS Singapore

• Integrated Products Give Comprehensive End to End Radiology Workflow Solution
• Accessibility is Key Theme of Innovations, with Access at the Touch of a Button
• Broad Portfolio Features Radiology, Cardiology, Perinatal, High Acuity Care and Service

SINGAPORE – 17 Sep 2012 – GE Healthcare IT, a division of General Electric Company, will be exhibiting regional firsts among its latest range of IT solutions at this year’s HIMSS AsiaPac12 Conference and Exhibition, from 17-19 September at the Marina Bay Sands, Singapore, on stand #527. Additionally, a full slate of Company experts will be featured as part of the AsiaPac12 conference speaker series.
At the expo, GE Healthcare IT will demonstrate how its broad portfolio is helping to fulfill the needs of its customers, in particular supporting the aim of providing patients with access to high quality healthcare in a cost effective and efficient way.
“The face of healthcare is changing and we are entering a time of ‘collaborative care’ which is a patient-driven, outcomes-driven method of delivering healthcare,” said Mitchell Silong, General Manager, GE Healthcare IT, Asia Pacific. “IT helps make this possible by linking together information from across the healthcare delivery system (inpatient, ambulatory, and home-based) to generate new insights that contribute to improved patient outcomes.”
A key theme running through GE Healthcare IT’s latest innovations is accessibility. Clinicians want to access all types of patient data at the touch of a button from anywhere at any time. In particular, they want to improve work flow and be able to share information and collaborate with other specialists to make clinical decisions more quickly.
“Our IT solutions connect data from across departments, the hospital enterprise and the region to provide a comprehensive view of the patient, and have been developed to give clinicians access to the right, quality information precisely when they need it,” continued Mr. Silong. “This is particularly significant in ASEAN where we are addressing the need for care in remote areas through tele-radiology. We believe moving data, rather than moving the patent is the most efficient way to allow access to the best care available, specifically for rural areas.”
Highlights of the company’s broad portfolio of technologies on display on the GE Healthcare IT stand include:
Radiology
• The GE Centricity* Radiology Information System (RIS), offering the latest generation of community-wide radiology workflow sharing capabilities
• A Web based PACS viewer for global reading across enterprises which is deeply integrated with RIS through a single user interface
• A four-level Vendor Neutral Archive which allows patient records from across different hospitals, to be consolidated and stored using industry standards
• A Clinical Patient Information Viewer which provides access and viewing of patient histories to multi-disciplinary teams throughout the patient’s health community
• Centricity Radiology Mobile Access (CRMA) allows clinicians and radiologists to quickly find images and reports through the AccessNow app, on their mobile device - iPhone, iPod, Touch, android Touch.
High Acuity Care
• The Centricity Perioperative software is highly adaptable management software to streamline workflow and help enhance patient care before, during and after surgery
Cardiology
• Launching for the first time in Asia, Centricity Cardiology Enterprise is a tightly interfaced cardiovascular IT solution that includes both CVIS (Cardiovascular Information System) and CVPACS (Cardiovascular Picture Archiving and Communications System) functionality, providing clinicians full access to a single comprehensive, web-based patient record.
Centricity Perinatal
• A clinical information system that integrates documentation and fetal surveillance to help clinicians deliver the best care to every mother and baby. From labor & delivery to the nursery or neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), the centricity perinatal software interfaces with multiple devices and systems to optimize ease of use and workflows.

GE Healthcare IT CMIO Mark Dente will participate in a panel discussion and presentation in the HIT X.O track. Dr. Dente’s presentation focuses on the shift in healthcare technologies and how the influx of Healthcare IT is impacting each person in a definite way. He’ll deliver his presentation on 18 September from 1400hr – 1430hr and twice on 19 September, from 1015 – 1045 and 1435 – 1520.

GE Healthcare IT Senior Engineer Chris Lindop is scheduled to present in the Interoperability Theater on Next Generation PACS and how it’s impacted by new and emerging global standards. Mr. Lindop is presenting twice on 18 September, 1130 – 1200 and 1630 – 1700, and again on 19 September from 1315-1345.

“In partnership with our Asia Pacific customers, GE Healthcare IT is constantly working to introduce workflow and connectivity solutions to meet their evolving requirements,” said Mr. Silong. “The range of solutions on display at HIMSS AsiaPac12 illustrates the breadth and depth of what we have to offer to help clinicians deliver better quality care for more patients at a lower cost.”

IBM Expands Operations in Turkey with New Branches in Adana and Bursa

Press release:

IBM Expands Operations in Turkey with New Branches in Adana and Bursa

IBM increases footprint to five branches across Turkey - extending availability of world-class IT solutions and services in line with regional business growth
Istanbul, Turkey - 12 Sep 2012: IBM (NYSE: IBM) has announced the opening of two new branch offices in Turkey as it continues to increase its presence in the fastest growing markets in the world.
The two new locations in the cities of Adana and Bursa are IBM's latest additions to a growing network of offices in Turkey including those in Istanbul, Izmir and Ankara.
“We are seeing increased demand for our solutions and services across Turkey as companies expand their operations and turn to technology to enhance their productivity and improve their competitiveness” said Michel Charouk, Country General Manager, IBM Turkey. “While Istanbul continues to strengthen its position as an important business hub, regional cities across Turkey are increasingly contributing to the country’s economic performance leveraging advanced technologies to compete on the global stage.”
IBM is helping the Hatay Archeology Museum
IBM is tapping into new growth opportunities in regional cities such as Hatay in Turkey where it is helping the Hatay Archeology Museum to create an online version of its mosaic collection
Through its geographic expansion initiative, IBM is targeting the opportunity in white space territories in emerging markets - high-growth cities and regions where there is significant opportunity for growth and where businesses and government organizations are turning to IT to transform their operations and increase competitiveness.
The two new offices in Turkey supplement the growing network of locations that IBM has across Central and Eastern Europe. Today, IBM also announced the opening of new offices in the cities of Poznan and Krakow in Poland.
Turkey has experienced strong economic growth in recent years due to a dynamic business landscape and strategic trading links with Europe and the Middle East region.
“We see Turkey as a top-ten global growth market for the next decade,” said Aidan Manktelow, Europe Director, Economist Corporate Network. “Although the country is still vulnerable to economic volatility, its supportive demographics, resilient banking sector and low indebtedness mean that any interruption to its growth would likely be only brief. We expect total IT spend to rise strongly from just under US$9bn in 2012 to over US$12.5bn by 2016.”
Accelerating Growth in Adana
Located in the south of Turkey, Adana has emerged as one of the country’s key cultural and commercial cities in the important economic region of Cukurova - often regarded as one of the most agriculturally productive areas in the world. In addition to agriculture, the region has experienced dynamic economic growth in the manufacturing, natural resources and commercial sectors.
“IBM’s initiative to open more offices to deliver solutions to areas outside traditional urban centers like Istanbul is reflective of the industrial growth in those areas and the increasing importance of IT to businesses wishing to compete on the global stage,” said Sadi Surenkok, Head of Adana Chamber of Industry.
Boosting Business in Bursa
As one of Turkey’s key industrial and production centers, Bursa, located in the northwest of the country, is one of the most industrialized cities in the country and acts as the center of Turkey’s automotive industry.
IBM is already working with a number of clients in Bursa such as industrial group AktaÅŸ Holding. Through a 5-year agreement, IBM is helping to transform AktaÅŸ’s operations across security, systems performance, business continuity, virtualization, disaster management, control and accountability.
“IBM’s value proposition is clear - more effective products at an affordable price,” said Ebru Bulut, IT Manager, AktaÅŸ Holding. “Working with IBM we are able increase the speed and efficiency of our operations while at the same time ensuring the security of our data.”
Operating in Turkey for 74 years, IBM has its headquarters in Istanbul and a recently enlarged Ankara office in addition to its branches in Adana, Bursa and Izmir. Also in Izmir, IBM has a Business Continuity and Resiliency Services Center providing services for leading Turkish companies.

IBM Unveils New Services to Accelerate Customer Engagement Efforts for CMOs, CIOs

Press release:

IBM Unveils New Services to Accelerate Customer Engagement Efforts for CMOs, CIOs

IBM Interactive gains momentum worldwide as a leading global digital marketing provider
Armonk, N.Y. - 07 Sep 2012: IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced a new set of services targeting chief marketing officers (CMOs) and chief information officers (CIOs) to boost engagement efforts among today’s increasingly selective and digitally empowered customers. IBM Interactive, IBM’s digital marketing agency, will play a critical role in guiding businesses through their digital transformation journeys.
IBM’s 2011 study of more than 1,700 chief marketing officers revealed that the majority of the world’s top marketing executives recognized a critical shift occurring in regards to customer engagement, but felt underprepared to manage the change. The IBM study also found that while 82 percent of CMOs say they plan to increase their use of social media over the next three to five years, only 26 percent are currently tracking blogs, 42 percent are tracking third party reviews and 48 percent are tracking consumer reviews to help shape their marketing strategies.

In response to this need, IBM is introducing a new set of integrated services designed to help businesses build and expand their digital marketing presence. IBM will help businesses use technology as a tool to build more meaningful, personalized interactions across mobile, social and online touchpoints.

IBM will rapidly assess a business's current needs against future marketing vision, conduct a gap analysis to evaluate which of the future capabilities are currently supported through existing business architecture and then determine the new processes, technology, data, skills, and governance required for the transformation strategy. IBM will design customized roadmaps for clients built on industry-leading techniques and methodologies developed in worldwide client engagements.

Analytic techniques will be used to drive customer engagement, social marketing and collaboration, and marketing performance optimization efforts. For example, retailers, banks, insurance companies, and communications providers are all challenged to deliver the right offers for their products and services to customers at the right time.  Real-time predictive analytics can ease this task by analyzing the growing volumes of customer information – across various structured and unstructured data sources – to provide key insights into customer preferences.  Combined with business rules based on knowledge of what offers and actions have proven successful with other customers in a similar situation, the analytics can provide recommended actions for that customer on a personalized basis.

“Today, businesses have a unique opportunity to rebrand themselves to become more customer-centric and relevant,” said Adam Klaber, Managing Partner, New Markets, IBM Global Business Services. “As part of IBM’s broader Smarter Commerce efforts, IBM works with businesses to deepen customer relationships and turn prospects into brand advocates. Leading with a data-driven approach, IBM helps CMOs and CIOs to engage with consumer audiences in a more personalized and authentic manner, to in turn, boost brand loyalty.”

CUSTOMER SUCCESS: Northwestern University Delivers Better Insight to Students, Faculty Using BMC Software

Press release:

CUSTOMER SUCCESS: Northwestern University Delivers Better Insight to Students, Faculty Using BMC Software

Secure, real-time visibility of IT enables superior web application performance capabilities

CHICAGO, Sept. 6, 2012–With more than 25,000 students, faculty and staff, Northwestern University prides itself on its ability to combine innovative teaching and research in a highly collaborative environment. Web applications are critical to that collaboration, representing a “backbone” for the university’s work.
The university’s IT department needed a much stronger view into the performance, health and availability of its web applications. Northwestern turned to BMC Software (NASDAQ: BMCto improve its dynamic learning and teaching capabilities.Prior to choosing BMC, the university had limited visibility into its application performance, which meant diagnosing and resolving any problem was lengthy and inefficient.
“With BMC Software, we have an accurate way to measure usage, performance and availability,” said Dana Nielsen, director of monitoring and management systems at Northwestern University Information Technology. “As a result, we can make better resource decisions and that means better support for our students, faculty and staff.”
Nielsen added, “Instead of relying on anecdotal information, we have a baseline for an intelligent conversation about performance. Having a true measurement of what’s happened has increased our credibility. We can show that our systems are up 99 percent of the time. All of that has been tremendously helpful.”
The Challenge
Northwestern University did not have a single, secure dashboard to monitor its web applications and adequately determine performance issues. As a result, the lack of visibility to critical data caused the processes for troubleshooting and resolving problems to be inefficient.
The Solution
The university created a capacity and availability service monitoring dashboard with the BMC End User Experience Management solution. This provided IT staff with real-time web application performance data. Additionally, students, faculty and staff could check the performance, health and availability of their web applications.
Benefits
The university has experienced several benefits, including:
  • Access to real-time data, which accelerated problem resolution and improved the user experience
  • Better reporting capabilities to facilitate rapid problem resolution
  • Accurate measurement and tracking to demonstrate quality of services, enabling better decision making
  • Freed up technology resources and improved collaboration on issues
