CA Technologies Supports Windows Server 2012 with Data Classification

Press Releases

CA Technologies Supports Windows Server 2012 with Data Classification

Company Extends Content Aware Identity and Access Management Helping Deliver More Precise Access Control for Windows Server
ISLANDIA, NY, September 4, 2012 – CA Technologies (CA: NASDAQ) today announced support for Windows Server 2012 Dynamic Access Control. Integrating CA DataMinder™ Classification with Windows Server 2012 gives customers more precise access control of their data stored on Windows Server, helping to improve information security, reduce risk and meet compliance mandates.
Documents stored on a server that were once classified as non-sensitive can quickly change to contain sensitive or classified information throughout day-to-day operations. CA DataMinder Classification scans, locates and classifies sensitive content stored within Windows Server 2012, including intellectual property, financial information and personally identifiable information such as social security numbers, credit card numbers and other employee relevant data. When used with Windows Server 2012 Dynamic Access Control, CA DataMinder Classification helps to deliver precise and fine-grained access control that enables business processes to continue while protecting the most critical information assets.
“Windows Server 2012 Dynamic Access Control lets customers define central access policies at the organizational level and lets customers control access to data and achieve regulatory compliance,” said Andrew Conway, Director, Product Marketing, Enterprise Client, at Microsoft. “CA DataMinder Classification addresses the dynamic nature of data. By combining the content classification from CA DataMinder with the access policies set in Windows Server 2012, customers can better protect critical information from inappropriate use or disclosure.”
This integration extends CA Technologies Content-Aware Identity and Access Management (IAM) product strategy, which helps protect critical data from inappropriate use or disclosure by controlling users, their access and how they handle information. CA Technologies first delivered capability for Content-Aware IAM by associating content and data policies with identities and roles managed by CA IdentityMinder™ (formerly CA Identity Manager). It continued its Content-Aware direction earlier this year with a security solution for Microsoft SharePoint that enabled CA SiteMinder® to use content classification information for more precise Web access control.
“A core focus for a security professional is to ensure the right people have the right access to the right information. But information changes more quickly than access rights, which can leave organizations vulnerable to sensitive data leaks,” said Mike Denning, general manager, Security, CA Technologies. “Organizations need a layered security approach where information about the data is used as input for access policies to more precisely determine whether a user should be granted access to information.”

BroadCloud Delivers Flexible and Scalable Disaster Recovery Services Built on CA ARCserve

Press Releases

BroadCloud Delivers Flexible and Scalable Disaster Recovery Services Built on CA ARCserve

CA Technologies Solution Helps Managed IT Infrastructure Provider Meet SLAs, Maximize Efficiency and Reduce Costs
ISLANDIA, N.Y., August 27, 2102 – CA Technologies (NASDAQ: CA)  today announced that BroadCloud, a leading managed IT infrastructure provider, is using CA ARCserve® to provide comprehensive disaster recovery (DR) services to help customers ensure that data is secure and highly available.
BroadCloud provides managed hosting, managed services, co-location and high-value data management solutions that help customers address four key challenges: data resilience, business and technology alignment, transformation risks and compliance.
BroadCloud’s business is increasingly focused on public, hybrid and private cloud services, which are delivered from more than 60 data centers worldwide. The company provides specially designed private cloud services from high-security facilities that help customers comply with HIPAA, SOX, FISMAN and data protection regulations.
• Meet service level agreements, which are critical to its reputation and customer satisfaction;
• Maximize efficiency, which enables the company to manage disaster recovery processes for hundreds of customers with just 40 engineers; and
• Meet customer needs around costs and compliance.
BroadCloud was using a range of tools from a number of suppliers to support its recovery management services, due to the diversity of the systems being protected and customer preferences. This time-consuming approach added to the company’s service management burden.
“With CA ARCserve, our disaster recovery processes are now fully automated and require minimal manual intervention,” said Brent Eubanks, executive vice president of Strategic Services at BroadCloud. “We can provision new customers with the level of recovery management they need very quickly. The ability to provide cost-effective and compliant recovery management services enhances our competitive advantage and helps us retain and attract customers from a range of industries.”
BroadCloud is using CA ARCserve to underpin its multi-tier recovery management and data resiliency services. The company protects several petabytes of data using the solutions, which enable simple centralized recovery management across its client base.
“CA ARCserve solutions enable us to back up and restore data from the cloud very easily,” said Eubanks. “They are ideal for those customer systems that need to be recovered within a few hours.”
To support more demanding customer workloads, such as email, ERP (enterprise resource planning) and CRM (customer relationship management) systems, BroadCloud uses CA ARCserve® Replication and CA ARCserve® High Availability.
“With real-time replication and high availability clusters, we can fail over between data centers in minutes to ensure that customer systems suffer negligible downtime in the event of an incident,” said Eubanks.
“Service providers face especially challenging objectives when it comes to scalably, reliably and resource-efficiently protecting large volumes of distributed data,” said Steve Fairbanks, vice president, Data Management, CA Technologies.  “BroadCloud's success highlights just how well-suited CA ARCserve is for these highly challenging environments—and how broadly applicable it is for all kinds of data protection needs.”

CA Technologies Adds Aspera Software License Management to its Service Management Portfolio

Press Releases

CA Technologies Adds Aspera Software License Management to its Service Management Portfolio

OEM Agreement Helps Customers Address Complexities of Software Licensing and Mitigate Audit Risk
ISLANDIA, NY and AACHEN, Germany—August 16, 2012—CA Technologies (NASDAQ: CA) and Aspera GmbH (“Aspera”), a wholly-owned subsidiary of USU Software AG (“USU”), today announced an OEM agreement under which CA Technologies will embed Aspera’s industry-leading SmartTrack license management technology in its industry-leading CA IT Asset Manager software.

CA IT Asset Manager helps organizations reduce the risk of license compliance and optimize the cost, management and distribution of existing assets.
Findings from the latest annual survey conducted at Gartner's IT Financial, Procurement and Asset Management Summit again show higher numbers of audits year over year.  In the same research note, Gartner recommends that “CIOs should invest the funds needed to ensure that robust asset management is in place and effective, and that asset management staff are empowered to ensure compliance."
Software license agreements with vendors can also be highly complex, making it difficult for customers to get maximum business value from them while also rigorously maintaining compliance with licensing terms.
According to Gartner analyst Patricia Adams, “Correlating license entitlement with installed software is not an easy task.  Therefore, vendors specializing in software license optimization are emerging to address this market niche.”**
“Aspera lives and breathes software license management,” said Christof Beaupoil, president of Aspera Technologies Inc., the U.S.-based sister company of Aspera GmbH. “By providing CA Technologies with both our technology and expertise, Aspera can help CA Technologies customers more quickly and easily achieve their efficiency and compliance goals.”
Aspera’s software license management technology complements the broader CA Technologies Service Management solutions portfolio, which addresses all aspects of software, hardware and network resource ownership on-premise and in the cloud—along with associated IT operations.
Aspera also delivers its technology as a cloud-based service, which aligns well with the CA Technologies IT Management-as-a-Service (ITMaas) strategy.
"IT organizations are under intense pressure to get the most out of every dollar of IT spend, even as their environments are becoming increasingly complex," said Lokesh Jindal, senior vice president, Service and Portfolio Management, CA Technologies.  "Our relationship with Aspera will help our customers worldwide fulfill this core objective by empowering them to improve utilization of all the assets that support their service delivery."

CA Technologies and Logicalis Extend Strategic Relationship to Deliver Cloud Choice and Flexibility

Press Releases

CA Technologies and Logicalis Extend Strategic Relationship to Deliver Cloud Choice and Flexibility

CA Automation Suite for Clouds Now Part of Logicalis’ Aggregated Cloud Management Strategy
ISLANDIA, N.Y., August 15, 2012 – CA Technologies (NASDAQ:CA) and Logicalis, an international IT solutions and managed services provider, today announced that the companies are extending their strategic relationship in the U.S. to offer customers greater flexibility and choice for their enterprise-class cloud computing strategies.
Logicalis, a long-time CA Technologies customer, relies on several CA Technologies solutions to support its own cloud infrastructure, and as a Premier Service Provider partner, it offers a range of CA Technologies products to its end customers, including Nimsoft to deliver monitoring-as-a-service to its managed services customers. With the extension of this partnership, Logicalis’ customers can now select CA Automation Suite for Clouds from Logicalis’ cloud aggregation toolbox.
“Business services are the lifeblood of the enterprise, and fast delivery of quality services translates into increased productivity and competitiveness,” said Roger Pilc, general manager of Industries, Solutions and Alliances at CA Technologies. “Logicalis has a strong history of working with its customers to respond to changing business demands. By offering automated cloud service delivery with CA Automation Suite for Clouds, customers become even more agile, sourcing and deploying new services quickly, efficiently and cost-effectively.”
As enterprises come to rely on a wide variety of cloud services provided by many different vendors and running on different environments, management of those resources can become a challenge. Cloud automation helps IT professionals address this problem directly by aggregating management of all kinds of cloud services—regardless of where the cloud resides, how it was built or which vendor provided the underlying software or hardware. With this approach, IT can shift its focus from maintenance to innovation, becoming the valued broker of cloud services driving business productivity gains.
“At Logicalis, we take a consultative approach to creating cloud solutions, tailoring those solutions to each individual customer’s specific business and IT strategy. That often means managing a heterogeneous cloud environment with a host of third-party services, something that, without the right automation tools, can be a significant challenge,” said Mike Martin, vice president of cloud solutions for Logicalis. “At Logicalis, we’re both a customer and a provider of CA Automation Suite for Clouds. We rely on CA Technologies solutions in our own managed services and hosted cloud offerings that extend to hundreds of customers nationwide. And for clients that need to manage their own private or hybrid cloud solutions, CA Automation Suite for Clouds offers a solid choice for managing both physical and virtual resources. We are proud to have extended our relationship with CA Technologies to be able to offer our clients access to this important toolset.”
Organizations can help protect existing technology investments and avoid vendor lock-in with the open, modular and scalable fabric-based architecture of CA Automation Suite for Clouds that supports legacy environments, converged infrastructure, virtual fabrics and multiple hypervisors. CA Automation Suite for Clouds can also help customer to accelerate time-to-market for new services and reduce the cost and complexity of delivering hybrid clouds with its pre-integrated and extensible framework and automated provisioning capabilities.

“CA Technologies has leading hosted RBA capabilities. CA Technologies Drives Expansion Plans at Eurokars

CA Technologies Drives Expansion Plans at Eurokars

CA AppLogic Cloud Platform and CA ARCserve Solutions Enable Operational Efficiencies for Luxury Car Distributor
ISLANDIA, N.Y. and SINGAPORE, March 22, 2012 – CA Technologies (NASDAQ: CA) today announced that Eurokars Group of companies, an award-winning motorcar distributorship, has chosen offerings from CA Technologies to help deliver new services faster, and to respond more quickly and dynamically to changing business demands. Specifically, Eurokars Group has selected the CA AppLogic® cloud computing platform to develop its private cloud and CA ARCserve® solutions for its data protection needs.
“With CA Technologies solutions, we can leverage leading cloud computing and data protection solutions from the same vendor,” said Francis Lim, Group IT Manager, Eurokars Group. “The single platform will ease existing application management issues, and provide more predictable and sustainable total cost of ownership.”
The Eurokars Group distributorship represents Porsche, Rolls-Royce motorcars, MINI, Saab and Mazda in Singapore and Porsche, Roll-Royce motorcars, BMW (Western Jakarta), Mazda (North and South Jakarta) and 3M vehicle-related products in Indonesia. With 650 employees across two countries, Eurokars Group needed to strengthen its IT service delivery infrastructure as it expanded into new regions and added more innovative services to its portfolio. The IT team wanted to speed up provisioning of new compute resources and gain visibility into IT resource forecasts. A reliable disaster recovery component had become imperative as well.
“We have a unique approach called Business Service Innovation that helps our customers to transition from merely managing and maintaining IT to delivering new services that help meet today’s fast-changing business demands,” said Victor Cheng, vice president, Asia South, CA Technologies. “To help customers make this transition, we offer solutions that accelerate, transform and secure IT across a wide range of platforms and environments helping to improve efficiencies, drive innovation and reduce risk.”
Deploying both the CA AppLogic platform and CA ARCserve solutions will cut the company’s yearly hardware budget by 15-20 percent over each of the next two years, said Lim.
A private cloud enabled by the CA AppLogic platform will free Eurokars Group from the complexity of underlying operating systems, while improving hardware resource utilization rates. A per-processor licensing model ensures predictable linear software costs during future expansion, and pre-configured server templates allow new applications to go live much more quickly. Additionally, the solution’s built-in ability to add capacity caters to Eurokars’ anticipated growth.
With CA ARCserve solutions, Eurokars Group can implement its growth strategy with more control, reliability and efficiency. CA ARCserve centralizes network-wide backup of the company’s mission-critical applications, and replicates application data from production systems to an active standby system for disaster recovery purposes. High availability functionality in the CA ARCserve solution enables Eurokars Group to automatically switch over to the secondary data center during a major infrastructure failure, thereby helping to avoid the disruption of critical business activities.

CA Technologies Wins Copyright Infringement & Trade Secret Action

CA Technologies Wins Copyright Infringement and Trade Secret Action Against Australia-based Independent Systems Integrators

Federal Court of Australia Judge Expected to Issue Orders to Implement Decision
ISLANDIA, NY, and SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, March 21, 2012 – CA Technologies (NASDAQ: CA) today announced that the Federal Court of Australia has found Independent Systems Integrators (ISI) of Sydney, Australia violated copyright laws and breached its duty of confidentiality in developing and selling a product using intellectual property (IP) from CA Technologies CA Datacom relational database management system.

“We are pleased with the Court’s decision,” said Amy Fliegelman Olli, CA Technologies executive vice president and general counsel.  “CA Technologies will continue to vigorously protect its intellectual property and aggressively pursue any illegal use in order to protect the substantial investments we make in research and development.  Furthermore, we are committed to safeguarding the considerable investments and confidence our customers place in us when they purchase our products, solutions and services.”

In the next phase of the decision process, the Federal Court of Australia is expected to issue orders necessary to implement its ruling.
The Federal Court found that ISI infringed CA Technologies copyrights by using CA Datacom code to develop and implement its 2BDB2 product.  In addition, the Court further ruled that ISI violated its duty of confidentiality by using confidential information found in the Administrator and Programmer Guides provided to CA Datacom customers to develop the ISI 2BDB2 product.
The ISI case is the second major instance in the past three years where CA Technologies has successfully taken actions to protect its intellectual property.
In February 2009, in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York, CA Technologies reached a settlement with Rocket Software, Inc. resolving the company’s claims of copyright infringement and trade secret misappropriation.  As part of the settlement, Rocket has agreed to license technology from CA Technologies, including source code authored several years ago and related trade secrets that were the subject of the litigation. Further terms of the settlement were not disclosed.

Oni Launches New Cloud Services for Enterprises Using CA Technologies Cloud Platform

The Portuguese Telecom and IT Group Will Reduce Time to Market for New Services With the CA AppLogic® Platform
ISLANDIA, N.Y. and LISBON, March 13, 2012 – CA Technologies (NASDAQ:CA) today announced that Oni, the Portuguese telecom and IT group, has signed an agreement to use the CA AppLogic® cloud computing platform to deliver the benefits of cloud-based services to the enterprise market in Portugal.
Oni focuses exclusively on serving large enterprises. In today’s fast moving environment, these customers need to launch business services quickly each time their competitive landscape changes. Instead of ordering new servers, assembling the necessary components, and configuring the various hardware and services, Oni will use the CA AppLogic platform to quickly deploy IT infrastructure and services for customers in hours instead of months.
Using the platform’s simple drag and drop interface, Oni can rapidly build new cloud services for customers, thereby helping them to decrease time-to-market, and giving them the flexibility to respond to new market opportunities. “The CA AppLogic platform is a unique, turnkey solution that addresses the disruptive nature of cloud computing. By selecting this platform, we will be able to help our large enterprise customers reap the full benefits of cloud services,” said Miguel Allen Lima, chief executive officer of Knewon, the IT company of Oni Group. “We chose this platform based on its fast deployment capabilities and for its ability to support IaaS, PaaS and SaaS. Now, we will be able to rapidly deliver cloud services in a cost-effective way, without expanding our IT staff or making large physical infrastructure investments. This solution is truly an IT performance accelerator. Our new mantra is: ‘think of hours instead of weeks or months.’”
Oni benefits from CA Technologies Business Service Innovation approach, which will enable the company to deliver business services more quickly and allow its enterprise customers to capitalize on disruptive and innovative trends in IT.

“Oni’s new cloud offering built on our platform will clearly help shorten the time and costs associated with launching new cloud-based business services,” said Pedro Ligero, vice president of Area Sales for Iberia, CA Technologies. “With the CA AppLogic platform, Oni is expanding its broad set of offerings and helping its large enterprise customers to drive innovation and create new opportunities for competitive advantage.”
