Serbian Postal Savings Bank Deploys Cisco Connected Physical Security Solutions

PRESS RELEASE

Serbian Postal Savings Bank Deploys Cisco Connected Physical Security Solutions

In Addition to Physical Security, Several of the Bank's Key Functions, Including Call Center, Data Center and Stock Trading System Run on Cisco Intelligent Network and Cisco Unified Computing System

BELGRADE, Serbia, March 19, 2012 – Cisco today announced that Serbia's biggest retail bank, Banka Postanska Stedionica (Serbian Postal Savings Bank), has implemented a Cisco® Connected Physical Security Solution at its headquarters in Belgrade and across a network of over 40 branches in Serbia.
With the Internet Protocol (IP) network, video streams from any branch can be monitored from a PC in the central office or any other branch on the network. In addition to physical security, the bank is using the Cisco Borderless Network Architecture and Cisco Unified Computing SystemTM to integrate data and voice communication, customer relationship management and data center on a single, intelligent and highly secure network platform.
Key Facts, Highlights:
  • With more than 2 million customers and 1,500 employees, Banka Postanska Stedionica is a state-owned financial services group that has successfully completed several acquisitions over the past years. This, however, has meant that physical security systems, including video surveillance, had little standardization and were based on a variety of traditional closed-circuit TV (CCTV) solutions from different vendors, with only a small proportion attached to networked video recorders. Monitoring and maintenance had to be done at a branch level, which was far from efficient and, with little automation, relied on people being able to recognize and respond to events. It also made it virtually impossible to support a coordinated incident response.
  • The objective of the bank was to replace its legacy analog systems with an end-to-end, branchwide surveillance system, thus improving the protection of clients and employees, making operation more efficient, and reducing costs.
  • Banka Postanska Stedionica is using its Cisco Borderless Network Architecture with Cisco Integrated Services Routers as the foundation for physical security. The network connects 400 cameras, most of them high-resolution digital Cisco IP video surveillance cameras placed both indoors and outdoors.
  • Cisco Video Surveillance Media Servers are used at the bank's headquarters and all branches to collect and route video from the cameras and encoders over the IP network. They also offer video archive capabilities, event tagging and bandwidth management for both live distribution and historical recording. Both live and recorded video content is virtually available to all authorized security personnel. Also, certain alarm and sensor systems are integrated so that events that trigger alarms can be matched with the video content.
  • Com-4T doo, a Cisco Premier Certified Partner in Serbia, designed and installed a video surveillance management platform, including servers, archiving, and monitoring software. Com-4T also provided training for users.
Supporting Quotes:
  • Dragisa Lojanica, head of IT, Banka Postanska Stedionica
"The value of the solution became evident soon after it was switched on. In one of our branches, a cashier accidentally gave a customer an overpayment of 20,000 Serbian dinars (about $275) and the video recording helped identify where the transaction had been made and to efficiently rectify it. Cisco and Com-4T doo experts had an in-depth understanding of our need to create a modern and efficient security surveillance infrastructure, while reducing our total costs by reusing equipment where appropriate. We now have a sound and flexible foundation for the future. As a next step, we are considering the integration of access control based on the network foundation."
  • Geetha Dabir, vice president, Physical Security Business Unit, Cisco
"The need to protect critical assets is driving the demand for a more efficient use of physical security technologies powered by next-generation services. With the deployment of Cisco connected physical security solutions including Cisco Video Surveillance Media Servers, Banka Postanska Stedionica is helping to ensure that its customers and employees are protected, while streamlining operations, improving business efficiency and cutting costs."

News Release from Dell - VoIP Kiosks

Dell OEM Solutions Helps Gratifon S.A. Power VoIP Kiosks and Prepare for Future Growth

  • Small business Gratifon relies on Dell cloud computing, industrial PCs, and support to deliver innovative VoIP kiosks across Latin America
  • Dell OEM Solutions reduces overhead for Panama-based start-up during rapid growth period and enables global expansion
Gratifon S.A. is leveraging Dell OEM Solutions’ OptiPlex XE PCs and cloud services for 50 kiosks that provide sponsored phone calls at no cost to residents and tourists in Panama. With Dell OEM Solutions technology and services, Gratifon can plan for future growth, focus on innovating its core business and deliver new offerings that help connect consumers.
Gratifon (Gratifon.com) has invented a voice-over-Internet protocol (VoIP) kiosk that connects consumers at tourist locations, hotels, airports, malls and supermarkets to any landline or cell phone worldwide at no cost. During the conversation, the kiosk displays interactive video advertisements on its full-color screen. Gratifon’s kiosks help consumers find restaurants, attractions and lodging, and advertisers benefit by being able to place relevant ads at point of sale locations.
Gratifon needed small, quiet, industrial PCs that would withstand the humid, hot weather of Central America to power its kiosks. The company turned to Dell OEM Solutions’ industrial OptiPlex XE PCs, which have an extended three-year lifecycle and can operate in temperatures of more than 110 F. OptiPlex XE PCs help customers decrease field maintenance costs with component-level stability and standards-based remote management while delivering the performance needed to power quick calls, high definition video and a pleasant user experience.
Dell OEM Solutions also provided the Dell Cloud with VMware vCloud® Datacenter Service, a VMware-based public cloud service offering that provides scalable computing power and storage, eliminating the need for Gratifon to build out its own data center, while delivering simplicity, ease of deployment and a single point of contact for support of the overall solution. Managed by skilled Dell technicians, the solution combines VMware’s cloud software with redundant hardware, power, and cooling to deliver high scalability and reliability. Beyond the software and hardware, Dell’s cloud specialists provided configuration assistance and training, as well as ongoing support, through Dell ProSupport to Gratifon.
With Dell solutions technology, Gratifon has been able to expand, deploying 50 kiosks throughout Panama and plans to add another 250 kiosks within the next six months. Longer-term goals are to roll out approximately 3,000 kiosks in Colombia, Ecuador, Argentina and Brazil within 12 to 18 months.
Dell OEM Solutions works with its customers to help them leverage Dell hardware and services to bring their intellectual property to new markets with greater efficiency so they can spend more time on their own innovation. A division within Dell, Dell OEM Solutions provides original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) with customized services, support and technologies that meet their unique specifications. Many fast-growing, innovative companies looking for a tier-one technology provider turn to Dell OEM Solutions as their single, global source for comprehensive, end-to-end design, manufacturing, logistics, supply-chain and support services to help them improve agility and competitive differentiation.
Quotes:
“As a startup, technology is key to ensuring that our growing business can thrive,” said Oz Yosef, Gratifon CEO. “By leveraging the Dell OEM OptiPlex XEs and cloud services for our kiosks, we were able to cut costs and expand our business in ways we didn’t know possible.”
“We’re pleased to help Gratifon bring their innovative VoIP kiosks concept to the public and grow its business,” said Ron Pugh, executive director and general manager, Dell OEM Solutions, Americas. “By providing Gratifon with a single source for the hardware, services and support to power its kiosk, we give them the reliability and flexibility to expand into new markets.”

Which Mobile App Features make Consumers Tick?

Which Mobile App Features Make Consumers Tick?

Nuance Research Releases New Telling Data on Mobile Apps

Natural Language, Voice Biometrics, and Other Advanced Features are Set to Trigger Wider Consumer Adoption
BURLINGTON, MA. – March 7, 2012
WHAT: Mobile Apps are Here to Stay – When given the option, the majority (84 percent) of consumers would rather use a mobile app instead of calling a company for routine inquiries such as checking their balance, checking flight status and other tasks. While non-technophiles may find this mind-boggling, truth be told, mobile apps are here to stay and the numbers show that this trend is likely to continue. According to a recent survey commissioned by Nuance Research and conducted by Vocal Laboratories Inc. (Vocalabs), 85 percent of consumers expect to turn to a mobile app first for customer service over the next year.
Voice is King – The same survey also found that voice will be a key driver in mobile app growth, particularly when it comes to ease of use with a company’s customer service apps. More than half the respondents (59 percent) believe interacting with a company's mobile phone app through a natural spoken conversation would be easier than typing, while 42 percent said they believe it would be both faster and more fun than typing. For those surveyed who have already experienced natural language interactions through apps like Siri, those numbers skew higher with 68 percent thinking the interaction would be easier and 54 percent believing the interaction would be more fun. The survey also found that 77 percent would like to have the option and/or prefer to interact with mobile apps through a natural spoken conversation. Among those surveyed who have used conversational voice applications like Siri that number jumps to 91 percent.
Consumers Have an Appetite for Voice Biometrics – Nearly every consumer surveyed (a whopping 96 percent) said they make mistakes typing their passwords into their mobile phones, and 10 percent claimed that they make mistakes every time, signaling a clear opportunity for voice biometrics integration into mobile apps. Voice biometrics, which identifies each individual through their unique voiceprint, eliminates the hassle of remembering and then typing in passwords on virtual keyboards. Of the survey participants, 89 percent have more than 10 passwords that they manage, 34 percent have more than 20, and 15 percent have more than 40. Of these respondents, 77 percent feel a voice password would be more convenient than a typed password, while improved security is also a considering factor with 55 percent saying that they feel a voice password would be more secure than a typed password.

Close The Deal Faster: Interchange Solutions and AT&T Bring Sales Force Software to iPad with New App

SalesNOW App from AT&T Now Available on the App Store, Increasing Sales Team Efficiency for Both Small and Large Businesses

San Francisco, California, January 26, 2012

For salespeople who spend their days on the go, managing deals, customer contacts and activities just got easier. Interchange Solutions and AT&T* are now offering their sales force automation solution as an app for iPad. The SalesNOW App, also available for iPhone, is now available on the App Store.

Showcased for the first time today at MACWORLD 2012, the SalesNOW App from AT&T allows businesses of all sizes to:

  • Maximize seller productivity with an award-winning customer relationship management (CRM) solution
  • Synchronize all sales activity across iPhone, iPad and web accounts
  • Collaborate more effectively with team members

The SalesNOW App from AT&T is an affordable yet robust mobile customer relationship management and sales force automation solution. It gives companies the tools they need to track all aspects of the sales cycle - managing customer contact information, recording details of negotiations and contracts and grouping emails and call logs by customer for easy retrieval.

The Seller’s Perspective

Outdoor Living Brands, a SalesNOW from AT&T customer, is a franchisor that specializes in transforming outdoor spaces into comfortable living environments. Its companies build porches, design landscape lighting, develop pest control methods and more. So, naturally, its sales personnel are often on the move.

“From 22 different solutions that met our basic criteria, and three that met our specific set of criteria, the cost to deploy SalesNOW from AT&T was only a third of the cost of other solutions. Any company that is not looking at this product should immediately put it into the mix and evaluate it. Not only did we choose the right platform – it has more extensibility than we ever imagined,” said Bob Pogue, Director of IT, Outdoor Living Brands.

“Given the growing popularity of tablets for small and large businesses alike, the new SalesNOW App for iPad comes at a perfect time,” said Chris Hill, Vice President, Advanced Mobility Solutions, AT&T Business Solutions. “SalesNOW from AT&T gives mobile sales professionals exactly what they need to manage customer relationships on the go – using a smartphone, a tablet or both.”

“The iPad edition of SalesNOW is our first dedicated tablet version of the application,” said Mark Durst, CEO, Interchange Solutions. “Our customers can integrate SalesNOW from AT&T with existing applications on their iPads and customize the solution to meet their specific needs.”
