SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 28, 2012 – Today at VMworld 2012, Dell and VMware announced the expansion of the companies’ joint efforts to simplify the delivery of world-class desktop virtualization solutions. 
As part of the companies’ expanded strategic relationship, Dell and VMware will deliver new, turnkey virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) bundles based on VMware View.  The joint solutions will provide customers and channel partners with tested and validated hardware configurations and vertically optimized reference architectures, along with new fulfillment mechanisms and enhanced incentives for joint channel partners.
Organizations are looking to implement trusted VDI solutions, which can scale with them as they grow. According to the results of the recent “Trends around Desktop Virtualization for Small and Midsized Organizations” study conducted by Spiceworks (April 2012), more than 60 percent of customers are planning to roll out or evaluate desktop virtualization in 2012. As a result, channel partners are seeking ways to respond to customer demand with solutions that work seamlessly and offer the ability to scale, delivering value to customers and their businesses.
Cloud client computing in combination with desktop virtualization enables organizations of all sizes to offer anytime, anywhere access to the applications, data and services people want while simplifying IT management and security. The combination of Dell and VMware technology can help customers and channel partners deliver more effective desktop virtualization solutions faster to drive business advantages, embrace bring your own device (BYOD) and mobility challenges and reduce total cost of ownership (TCO).
Dell vStart for VDI, with VMware View – Delivering VDI Success
Core to the joint initiative is the new Dell vStart for VDI, with VMware View bundle, a combination of Dell vStart preconfigured and tested server, storage and networking hardware that has been validated and optimized by VMware for optimum performance and scalability with VMware View.  The solution also includes Dell Wysecloud clients designed for VMware View. These bundles come with validated reference architectures.
This offering will provide channel partners flexibility to offer a wide range of solutions, from turnkey “View-in-a-box,” to a la carte components needed to expand existing VMware View installations. Moreover, solutions will be available in configurations optimized for healthcare, education and government organizations, as well as for the specific BYOD and mobility needs of private businesses.

(NYSE: VMW), the global leader in virtualization and cloud infrastructure, previewed the alpha version of the VMware Horizon™ Suite, a new platform that will offer a flexible corporate workspace in the cloud for mobile workers to connect from anywhere using any device.  VMware also demonstrated how the combination of VMware View® and Wanova Mirage™ will enable customers to transform the legacy Windows desktop for the cloud era.

Introducing the Horizon Suite: The Platform for the Mobile Workforce
As IT organizations struggle to manage devices, applications, data and users in the post-PC era, they need solutions that will help them evolve from managing devices to managing user experiences across multiple devices. Today, VMware demonstrated the alpha of the VMware Horizon Suite, showcasing how it will help customers deliver the multi-device workspace and give end-users secure access to applications and data from anywhere.
The VMware Horizon Suite will bring together technologies from Project Octopus, Project AppBlast, ThinApp, VMware Horizon Application Manager™ and VMware Horizon Mobile™ into a truly integrated management platform for the mobile workforce. The VMware Horizon Suite will provide a flexible platform that uniquely combines the principles of identity, context and policy to separate personal and business workspaces, enable consistent access to applications and data across any personal device.
Through a central Web management console, the VMware Horizon Suite will allow IT to customize a service catalog for all company data and applications.  Horizon Suite will understand a user’s attributes and environment (device, location and connectivity level) and enforce policies across applications, data and desktops. This will allow IT to deliver Windows, Android, iOS, Web and SaaS applications in a single workspace and give end-users self-service access to applications and data from anywhere. Horizon Suite alpha will also allow end-users to securely access and share their data and files from any device.

VMware View and Wanova Mirage: Centralized Desktops for the Mobile Workforce
As workers become increasingly mobile, IT must provide anywhere, anytime access to the traditional Windows desktop.  With the recent acquisition of Wanova, VMware and its partner community can now offer centralized desktop management solutions that address the requirements of IT organizations to help them transform legacy Windows desktops into a service:
  • Managing virtual and physical desktops – Hosting desktops in the datacenter using VMware View comes with many benefits including simplified systems and application management, increased security and control, and higher availability and agility. The addition of Wanova Mirage extends the benefits of managing desktops in the cloud by also allowing local system execution on physical desktops and laptops. Mirage clones the images of the endpoints in the datacenter and runs them locally.  This gives customers all the benefits of centralized management and recovery while allowing users to work offline and preserve an uncompromised user experience. Together, these two solutions can support enterprises comprised of any combination of task or knowledge workers.
  • View “Rapid Desktop” program gains momentum – Today, Cisco, Dell, HP, and Intel join the growing eco-system of OEM, technology and channel partners that are helping to develop and sell VMware View appliances. These easy-to-deploy VDI appliances host between 25 and 500 virtual desktops that can be provisioned quickly, making them ideal for small and midsize businesses (SMBs) and scalable for larger organizations. 
  • New VMware View solutions – VMware today introduced two new solutions designed to help IT administrators best architect their environment and ensure all components selected work together for quick managed desktop deployment. VMware View Business Process Desktop and Branch Office Desktop have been tested in labs to ensure product interoperability and performance and are supported with reference architectures, tools and services from VMware and VMware technology partners to minimize guesswork around VDI.

The EMC Storage Analytics Suite for VNX®, a joint solution first announced by EMC and VMware at EMC World in May 2012, combines comprehensive storage intelligence with the analytics and visualization of VMware vCenter Operations Management Suite.

SAN FRANCISCO – VMworld® – August 27, 2012 – Today Cisco and VMware announced they plan to expand their strategic partnership to include integrated products and solutions aimed at delivering the software defined datacenter. This partnership expansion will be highlighted by an investment in dedicated engineering teams collaborating on deeper integrations across the VMware cloud infrastructure and management stacks and Cisco’s Data Center Networking and Fabric Computing platforms. The companies’ investment in joint dedicated engineering teams will represent a new level of collaboration which will enable the software defined datacenter through unprecedented coupling of virtual and physical infrastructure.
 
Highlights:
  • Cisco and VMware will make significant joint engineering investments to develop technology integration initiatives, which will launch a new set of solutions designed to provide customers unprecedented levels of agile compute and network services, workload and workspace mobility,  end-to-end visibility, and ease of troubleshooting across their physical and virtual infrastructures.

The companies confirmed their strategic partnership today at VMworld® 2012 in San Francisco announcing VMware vCloud® Datacenter Services from T-Systems. Among the first customers to benefit from the partnership is Europe's number one car marketplace, AutoScout24, and Actum/G2, the Czech digital marketing specialist within the multinational advertising and public relations group WPP.
On average, enterprises have virtualized more than 50 percent of their servers, leading to sizable gains in efficiency and manageability over the past few years. That enterprises are increasingly choosing VMware virtualization and cloud solutions to realize these benefits speaks to the trust that customers place in VMware cloud infrastructure. Service providers play a key role in the promise of cloud to deliver on-demand access to IT capacity on-demand without additional infrastructure investments. The VMware vCloud Datacenter Service to be provided by T-Systems delivers on the hybrid cloud promise, to provide IT infrastructure out of the cloud that has undergone a demanding certification process by VMware. This gives enterprises the confidence to move IT capacity into the cloud easily and without any surprises in terms of portability, compatibility, security, manageability and control. Thus when a customer’s data center has reached its capacity limit, or resources for new projects are needed within minutes, T-Systems provides a familiar solution in a hybrid cloud model. Flexible resources for dynamic markets
Flexible data center resources are essential for companies active in dynamic markets. Involved in the markets of 18 countries, AutoScout24 is the largest online car marketplace Europe-wide. "We require flexible, on-demand IT resources because our markets change every day," explained Joachim Rath, Head of IT Production of AutoScout24, which is part of the Deutsche Telekom group. Another customer to use VMware vCloud technology is Actum/G2, a digital marketing specialist in the Czech Republic. It is part of the WPP group, one of the largest advertising and public relations companies worldwide. The Prague-based agency provides customers with websites and apps from the cloud while T-Systems supplies the necessary infrastructure on-demand, highly available and secure.
Into the cloud at the push of a button

Part of the comprehensive cloud solution VMware unveiled today, Cloud Ops draws on VMware’s experience helping hundreds of clients worldwide navigate through the complex decisions around building, running and optimizing public and private cloud environments. Through these proven implementations a new operating model has emerged. IT shifts from a reactive, tactical relationship with business, to the role of a strategic partner helping drive innovation and competitive advantage.

Virtualization is now mainstream amongst SMBs, with companies increasingly focused on extending the benefits of virtualization to improve IT availability and backup / recovery. Recent studies by Spiceworks 1  found that 77 percent of SMBs are either using or planning to use virtualization software by the second half of 2012, and that of those who have already virtualized, more than 75 percent have chosen VMware vSphere as their virtualization solution.

  • VMware vSphere Storage Appliance 5.1 – Delivering High Availability at low cost.VMware vSphere 5.1 will include an updated VMware vSphere Storage Appliance for Essentials Plus, which transforms servers’ internal storage into a shared storage resource, enabling customers to use advanced VMware vSphere business continuity features such as VMware vMotion® and High Availabilitywithout shared storage hardware. Enhancements will make it easy for customers to extend these benefits to existing VMware vSphere and Remote Office/Branch Office (ROBO) environments and reduce infrastructure costs by running VMware vCenter™ Server in a VM within a VMware vSphere Storage Appliance cluster.  VMware vSphere Storage Appliance 5.1 will support RAID 5, 6, and 10 and also makes it easy for customers to add storage capacity online to keep pace with data growth.
  • VMware vSphere Data Protection™ – Providing reliable virtual machine backup and recovery.  VMware vSphere 5.1 will include new backup and recovery capabilities which enable users to quickly set backup policies within VMware vSphere.  VMware vSphere Data Protection will leverage proven production expertise to reduce cost and management overhead by enabling agentless backups with built-in de-duplication.
  • VMware vSphere Replication – Simplifying disaster recovery for all applications. Replication is a key component of any disaster recovery plan, and VMware vSphere 5.1 will include array-agnostic replication capabilities.  VMware vSphere Replicationwill allow customers to replicate virtual machine data over the LAN or WAN for efficient, simple disaster protection. For those customers that want to simplify and automate disaster recovery, VMware is introducing a new version of VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager™ that will include support for VMware vSphere 5.1 Essentials Plus.  VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager 5.1 will be supported by an expanding ecosystem of service providers offering “disaster recovery to the cloud” services that allow customers to failover to a service provider’s datacenter, eliminating the need for a dedicated disaster recovery site.
  • VMware vShield Endpoint™ – Securing virtual machines. VMware vSphere 5.1 will include vShield Endpoint, which delivers proven endpoint security to any workload with an approach that is simplified, efficient and cloud-aware.  VMware vShield Endpointwill eliminate the need for antivirus agents inside virtual machines by enabling the offloading of antivirus and anti-malware functions to hardened, tamper-proof virtual machines delivered by VMware’s partners. 
Introducing VMware vSphere 5.1 Standard with Operations Management
To help simplify and automate IT management, VMware is introducing a new VMware vSphere edition which combines the industry’s leading virtualization platform with the capabilities organizations need to simplify IT management and lower operational costs. VMware vSphere Standard with Operations Management will include:
  • VMware vCenter Operations Management Suite™ – automates performance and capacity management to help customers proactively ensure the performance of their business critical applications while optimizing efficiency.
  • VMware vCenter Protect™ – provides centralized patch management and asset inventory management to protect virtual and legacy physical systems. 
New release of VMware Go™ Pro further simplifies deployment and management

Pricing and Availability
VMware vSphere 5.1 and VMware vSphere Storage Appliance 5.1 are expected to be generally available on September 11, 2012. VMware vSphere pricing starts around $83 per processor with no core, vRAM or number of VM limits.  VMware vSphere Essentials is $495, and VMware vSphere Essentials Plus is $4,495.  All VMware vSphere Essentials Kits includes licensing for 6 CPUs on up to 3 hosts. 
VMware Go Pro is expected to be available directly to customers and through VMware’s network of channel partners in Q3 2012 with prices starting at $12 per managed system. For a limited time, VMware will include VMware Go Pro free with VMware vSphere 5.1 Essentials and Essentials Plus purchases.
VMware also offers several Acceleration Kits that provide midsize businesses with a scalable, full-featured virtualization platform that utilizes policy-based automation to help ensure application service levels and the option to add advanced management capabilities. VMware and Dell Journey to Your Cloud Makeover Contest
At VMworld 2012, VMware and Dell launched the “SMB Journey to Your Cloud Makeover Contest.” The contest provides an opportunity for SMBs who have virtualized a chance to win a $100,000 IT makeover from VMware and Dell. To be eligible, entrants submit a two-minute video, using an online video capture on the landing page, sharing how expanding their company’s use of virtualization will help them realize their cloud potential, and take their IT environment to the next level.
