U.S. Chamber Hires Jack Howard as SVP of Congressional & Public Affairs
WASHINGTON, D.C.—The U.S. Chamber of Commerce announced today that Jack Howard will assume the position of Senior Vice President of Congressional & Public Affairs effective July 15, 2013. He will report to the Chamber’s Executive Vice President for Government Affairs Bruce Josten.
“Jack’s knowledge and more than a quarter century of firsthand experience working in two different administrations, the House of Representatives, and the Senate will enable him to lead the Chamber’s Congressional & Public Affairs Division,” Josten said. “He is well respected in the halls of Congress and throughout Washington, D.C. We look forward to Jack taking this demanding role to expand and strengthen the Congressional Affairs division and the Chamber’s six regional offices to lead and support the Chamber’s advocacy function.”
Howard comes to the Chamber from Wexler & Walker Public Policy Associates where he served as vice chairman and chief operating officer. He brings with him more than 30 years of experience, having worked in the White House Legislative Affairs Office in two different administrations and served as deputy chief of staff to a Senate majority leader, deputy chief of staff to a speaker of the House, a senior strategic advisor to two different speakers of the House, and other positions.
“The Chamber is the premier voice of the business community here in Washington,” Howard said. “I'm honored and humbled to have been selected for this position. I'm excited to take on this next adventure in my career, and am eager to put to work my years of experience and lessons learned in the White House and Congress to help advance the Chamber's mission.”
In his new role, Howard will be responsible for developing and leading the strategic execution of the Chamber’s congressional lobbying activities, coordinating resources in Washington and around the country, and ensuring alignment with the Chamber’s mission and objectives. In partnership with Josten, he will be charged with strengthening the Chamber’s proactive, vigorous, and bipartisan congressional relations and field operations.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations.
