Oracle Introduces Solution to Help Communications Service Providers Monetize Next-Generation Network Services
Oracle Communications Services Gatekeeper 5.1 Provides Carrier Billing, Quality of Service Control, Partner Management, and Analytics Tools for Over-the-Top Services
Redwood Shores, Calif. – June 26, 2013
News Summary
Oracle introduced Oracle Communications Services Gatekeeper 5.1, which enables communications service providers (CSPs) to consolidate and expose network capabilities to accelerate service development and monetize partner and over-the-top network usage. The new release provides comprehensive analytics and partner management portals and introduces pre-integrated solutions to enable CSPs to rapidly deploy Network as a Service offerings, opening the door to a multi-sided business model.
Oracle today announced the release of Oracle Communications Services Gatekeeper 5.1, a standards-based application programming interface (API) exposure platform that helps monetize network services quickly and efficiently. The new release provides pre-built capabilities to help CSPs rapidly offer new and third-party applications and services by securely exposing and monetizing access to network resources and enhancing service quality control.
With the rapid growth of bandwidth-hungry applications and content, CSPs are under pressure to increase revenue and reduce costs by developing profitable new business models, improving returns on existing network investments and launching new services quickly and inexpensively.
To help reduce the time required to integrate conventional network API products, Oracle Communications Services Gatekeeper introduces a series of pre-integrated gateway solutions to reduce service provider time to revenue for compelling services – such as carrier billing, trusted identity management, messaging and service quality.
Oracle Communications Services Gatekeeper enhances CSP agility and competitiveness through customizable policy and partner management interfaces. The solution enables internal and third-party application providers to easily integrate with CSP networks via an open, standards-based architecture to quickly launch and directly manage new applications and services. It also provides CSPs extensive network service access and usage control and helps create new, sophisticated revenue streams, while increasing network visibility through comprehensive analytics.
Product Details
Part of the Oracle Communications Services Delivery Platform product family, Oracle Communications Services Gatekeeper has a rich set of interfaces to help CSPs offer a wider range of services and enhance agility and competitiveness. The solution:
Enables CSPs to better manage content and service partners to support the application lifecycle, streamline network and communication service access control and allow partners to easily integrate new services
Provides partners with a portal to easily on-board new applications and products, while enabling direct access to testing, usage and network analytics and service quality controls
Improves business decision making with advanced analytics reports, which capture network usage metrics – including duration of service use
Simplifies policy and network control integration with internal and partner applications, reducing service complexity and helping ensure a positive customer experience by adjusting service quality – for videos, games, calls or other content – to meet expectations
Provides CSPs with flexible platform deployment options, supporting traditional implementations as well as virtualized configurations and public or private cloud deployments
Enables secure and anonymous access to subscriber-sensitive resources by leveraging the OAuth2 authorization framework
In addition, Oracle Communications Services Gatekeeper is a highly extensible, future-proof system. The solution runs on commercial-off-the-shelf platforms, and offers built-in integration to Policy and Charging Rules Function (PCRF), online charging systems and network call control.
The solution has a large customer base of tier-one and tier-two CSPs that have successfully implemented Oracle Communications Services Gatekeeper, ensuring the solution has been extensively market-tested.

"While there has been a definite trend in the industry toward API exposure, with operators looking to exposing network assets such as call control, location, messaging and presence information for internal and third-party content developers, we are also seeing increasing interest to go beyond these ‘traditional’ APIs and exposing capabilities that provide developers with unique enablers that aren't available on the device. By extending its API platform to incorporate capabilities such as a Quality of Service API for exposing policy control, Oracle is positioning itself well to capitalize on this trend and help its customers create more dynamic content ecosystems. In addition, by providing flexible deployment options through virtualization, Oracle is helping its CSP customers meet another one of their key goals," said Shira Levine, directing analyst, service enablement and subscriber intelligence, Infonetics Research.
“In a competitive communications marketplace, it is vital that CSPs can rapidly deploy new and exciting services that meet customer and partner expectations. The latest release of Oracle Communications Services Gatekeeper provides CSPs with industry-standard technology combined with sophisticated management tools and analytics to securely open up networks to third-party services and applications while also helping to monetize those services and increase customer satisfaction,” said Bhaskar Gorti, senior vice president and general manager, Oracle Communications.
