Rockwell Collins avionics, SATCOM selected for EVA Air’s new Boeing 777 fleet
PARIS (June 20, 2013) – Taiwan-based EVA Air has selected the full suite of Rockwell Collins avionics, including its industry-leading MultiScan™ Threat Detection System andGLU-925 Multi-Mode Receiver (MMR), and SATCOM for seven new Boeing 777 aircraft with an option for an additional four.
“This is an especially meaningful win for Rockwell Collins since EVA was our launch customer for MultiScan when we first brought it to market,” said TC Chan, vice president and managing director, Asia Pacific for Rockwell Collins. “We’re honored they continue to put their trust in us for keeping crews and passengers safe from outside hazards during flight.”
“We strive to deliver a pleasant and reliable experience to our passengers and the sophistication and innovation that Rockwell Collins systems bring to the flight deck help make this a reality,” said Steve Huang, Deputy Senior Vice President for EVA Air.
Rockwell Collins’ MultiScan Threat Detection System is a fully automatic airborne weather radar system that combines the latest weather science with advanced engineering concepts to identify and analyze thunderstorm cells, and display the weather threat. The end result is fewer flight diversions, which leads to lower fuel burn, and greater passenger comfort due to minimizing unexpected turbulent encounters.
The latest version of MultiScan features many new capabilities that enable the prediction and display of hail and lightning potential, thunderstorm-related bow-wave turbulence, and storm cell tracking.
Rockwell Collins’ industry-leading GLU-925 MMR enables airlines and operators to take advantage of evolving Required Navigation Performance (RNP)/Area Navigation (RNAV) and Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) capabilities. The GLU-925 fulfills the requirements for aircraft navigation position source, Category III Instrument Landing System (ILS), Category I Global Positioning Landing System (GLS), accessing RNP/RNAV airspace (down to RNP Authorization Required 0.1), and meets the GPS position and availability requirements for ADS-B Out mandates.
For SATCOM, EVA selected Rockwell Collins’ SAT-2200, which enables airborne connectivity for both passengers and flight deck communications. The system complies with the latest ARINC 781 industry standard for Inmarsat SATCOM capability for classic Aeronautical, Swift64 and SwiftBroadband operation.
Deliveries of Rockwell Collins’ systems on EVA’s new 777 fleet are scheduled to begin in 2014.
In addition to its avionics and SATCOM selection, EVA also selected Rockwell Collins’EP®-8000 Image Generation System, which combines ground-breaking realism and performance with a scalable, adoptable design, for its pilot training simulator.
