Accenture Selected for Singapore Safe City Pilot Program
SINGAPORE; May 29, 2013 – Accenture (NYSE: ACN) has been selected by the SingaporeMinistry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Singapore Economic Development Board (SEDB) to manage a one-year Safe City pilot program. Accenture will integrate advanced analytic capabilities into the existing video monitoring systems used in the city, to increase situational awareness, streamline operations and enhance the response times of city authorities to public safety incidents. The Safe City pilot program is a Singapore government initiative led by theSafety and Security Industry Programme Office (SSIPO).
“The use of data analytics by public safety organizations is increasing at pace and is an exciting technology field for the public safety and security industry. For Accenture, this is an excellent opportunity to expand further its analytics capabilities in Singapore and to collaborate with us to create innovative new industry solutions,” said Gian Yi-Hsen, Director Safety and Security Industry Programme Office at SEDB.
Developed by the Accenture Technology Strategy & Innovation Group, the solution will apply computer vision and predictive analytics to video feeds across pilot locations to detect public safety concerns. When an incident is identified, an alert will be issued to the appropriate government agency. The solution will enable the relevant authorities to detect and monitor a variety of situations, including crowd and traffic movements, public disorder incidents and environmental threats such as flooding.
Anselm Lopez, director Capabilities Development and International Partnerships at MHA said, “Our collaboration with Accenture in the field of big data analytics will contribute toward a deeper understanding of our public safety landscape and increase our ability to anticipate and respond better to public safety incidents and crises as they occur.”
By working with Accenture on this pilot program, the Singapore government aims to leverage industry expertise and resources to develop new capabilities and expand the safety and security industry in Singapore. The agencies participating in the pilot are the Singapore Police Force, Singapore Civil Defence Force, Land Transport Authority, National Environment Agency, Public Utilities Board and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
