International service provider selects Cisco technology to deliver next-generation television services

IBC, Amsterdam, Netherlands - 7 September 2012 – SBB-Telemach Group, the largest pay TV platform in southeast Europe providing television, Internet, and telephony services, has selected the Cisco Videoscape™-capable Personal DVB Set-Tops (PDS) Series and Cisco® Integration Services to deliver next-generation television services.
The comprehensive, flexible technology platform will enable SBB-Telemach Group to deliver high-definition (HD) and Internet Protocol (IP) television services – including browser-based, intuitive user interfaces, video on demand (VOD) and new services like catch-up and time-shift TV. These advance services leverage the service provider’s existing infrastructure based on the Cisco Videoscape Distribution Suite (VDS).
Highlights:
  • SBB-Telemach Group is one of the region’s leading providers of television, Internet and telephony services, with approximately 1.5 million subscribers across the markets of former Yugoslavia.
  • The PDS Series is designed to deliver the next generation of consumer experiences with TV services such as VOD and time-shift TV, over-the-top video, social TV, advanced content search, recommendations, and second-screen adaptability when connected to the service-provider-managed IP network.
  • The PDS Series, which consists of both the PDS2000 and PDS3000 models, can be adapted to support cable, terrestrial, wireline, satellite and hybrid IP video infrastructures worldwide. The open platform is capable of supporting various conditional access and middleware options, including Cisco PowerKEY® and NDS VideoGuard®.

  • The PDS Series is fully compliant with EU energy consumption standards, continuing Cisco's track-record of leadership in energy efficiency in networked products.
  • Cisco Services was selected as the systems integrator for the program, taking responsibility over all necessary third-party components and guaranteeing service launch velocity and quality of experience. Cisco Services built on the previous successful deployment of the head-end and complete VOD solution, including the video back office and a content delivery platform.
  • Lab testing is currently under way with Serbia Broadband, with deployment expected to begin in autumn 2012. SBB-Telemach Group will be deploying the PDS2000 Series models with Cisco PowerKEY conditional access to deliver high-quality, next-generation television services.

Dragica Pilipovic Chaffey, CEO, Serbia Broadband, commented:
“Next-generation television services are a major focus as we look to build our growing subscriber base, both in Serbia and internationally. When we were looking for a technology partner, Cisco’s track record of working with partners to successfully launch video services in multiple markets, combined with the company’s commitment to an open-standards software architecture, made it the obvious choice. I am confident that this solution will allow SBB-Telemach Group to deliver world-class television services.”
Edwin Paalvast, senior vice president, Service Provider Group, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Russia, Cisco, commented:
“Consumers are increasingly expecting cable operators to deliver more than just traditional television services. The growth of online video and changing viewer behaviours mean that advanced services such as intelligent user interfaces, on-demand content and social media integration are becoming ever more important. The Cisco Videoscape platform will help SBB-Telemach Group bring innovation to television services faster and more cost-effectively, which will benefit consumers in Serbia and across South East Europe.”

Cloud Hub Powered by Dell Boomi

oneworld Integrates New Member Airlines Into the Alliance with Cloud Hub Powered by Dell Boomi

  • Cloud-based IT hub simplifies data integration across member airlines
  • Frequent flyer program information connected with Dell Boomi
  • Time and cost savings helps oneworld implement new member airlines
Tweet this: oneworld Integrates New Member Airlines Into the Alliance with Cloud Hub Powered by Dell @Boomi:http://dell.to/yXgYom

Dell Boomi today announced that oneworld®, the premier global airline alliance, has implemented a new information technology (IT) hub based on Dell Boomi AtomSphere cloud integration, designed to substantially reduce the complexity, cost and time involved in linking new member airlines into the alliance.

oneworld looked into developing a hub for linking member airlines’ IT systems several times in the past, but traditional integration technology made the cost and complexity too great. With Dell Boomi AtomSphere, oneworld is now able to create a hub and spoke-modeled data exchange in the cloud. This simplifies data integration between new and existing member airlines, which can lead to substantial time and cost savings for member airlines and reducing cost barriers for new recruits to the alliance.

“The development of this hub is one of the most significant alliance IT developments since oneworld was established more than a decade ago,” said oneworld IT Director Jouni Naskali. “Thanks to the latest cloud integration technology from Dell Boomi, the IT hub dramatically speeds up and simplifies the addition of new airlines to the alliance, making the entire process substantially more efficient and cost effective - both for the new joiners and for our established carriers.”

The oneworld IT hub will be used initially to integrate the frequent flyer programs IT systems of existing and new member airlines. Historically, linking the data from frequent flyer programs was one of the most challenging, time consuming and expensive parts of bringing a new airline into the oneworld alliance. oneworld needed to simplify the data exchange process and entrusted Dell Boomi, the world’s largest integration cloud.

Dell Boomi simplifies the data exchange for oneworld, helping them move away from a complex web of data exchange processes among alliance members. The new IT hub allows new member airlines to quickly integrate their IT systems into the alliance, helps strategic partners to set up relationships with several oneworld carriers and enables all member airlines to make enhancements to their frequent flyer programs that register across member programs.

“The elegance of cloud-based integration with Dell Boomi AtomSphere allowed us to create a new model for theoneworld IT hub, efficiently connecting data between all member programs, regardless of where they were located or what type of IT applications they were running,” said Rick Nucci, Dell Boomi general manager. “This solution means time and cost savings for all oneworld airlines linking new members and other strategic partners into hub.”

News Release from IBM - Smarter Computing

Leading Global Insurer Positions for Growth in Romania with IBM Smarter Computing

Real-time operational visibility helps SC AXA Life Insurance improve customer care and enterprise performance
BUCHAREST, Romania - 14 Mar 2012: IBM (NYSE: IBM) announced that AXA Insurance, a global insurer with over 95 million clients in 61 countries, has turned to IBM and its smarter computing model for a massive four-year systems integration project in Romania designed to streamline business processes, reduce IT costs, and uncover new business opportunities.
Romania's insurance sector is playing an increasingly significant role in the country's economy. Moves by the government to strengthen its regulatory body and increase program funding from the European Union are creating new demand for insurance coverage. Last year, for example, the government introduced compulsory home insurance regulation that covers approximately three million households. However, according to data recently released by the government-backed PAID Agency (Pool of Insurance Against Natural Disasters), currently there are only 510,000 insurance policies in the country.
To leverage this opportunity, New York-based AXA Insurance established a presence in Romania in 2009 by purchasing Omniasig Life Insurance. Then to integrate Omniasig's systems with its own, AXA turned to IBM Global Technology Services in Romania. Under the agreement signed last year, IBM will provide systems integration and management services to help streamline risk management, consolidate data to provide the company with a single view of customers, and work to lower operational costs by automating several pieces of the insurance process. IBM will facilitate the smarter computing project through its data center in Petrom City.
"While more businesses and individuals in Romania recognize the importance of having insurance coverage, penetration rates still have a considerable way to go if they are to reach those of developed markets," said  Violeta Ciurel, President and CEO, AXA Insurance Romania. "AXA Insurance Romania wants to be part of that growth in Romania."
Also as part of the agreement, IBM will migrate Omniasig's client system to a centralized ERP SAP solution and standardize business-use rules across IT applications to enable workload optimization and integration. The moves are designed to create a more open, flexible, scalable, efficient, and secure system that provides AXA Insurance Romania with greater visibility into, and control over, insurance policies as well as help reduce internal investment costs.
"IBM introduced its Smarter Computing approach to IT last year as a way for organizations to realize greater efficiencies, improved reliability and better performance, all at a lower cost," said Bogdan Balaci, Country General Manager, IBM Romania. "Through this engagement, AXA Insurance benefits from IBM's expertise in creating a flexible and scalable IT infrastructure that will enable the company's aggressive growth initiatives in the Romanian market."
