IBM and TransWorks Collaborate to Help Louisiana-Pacific Corporation Achieve Supply Chain Efficiencies

ARMONK, N.Y. - 05 Sep 2012:  IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced that Louisiana-Pacific Corporation (LP), a leading global manufacturer of high-quality building materials, has increased supply chain productivity with IBM technologies. IBM and TransWorks, a transportation and supply chain management provider based in Fort Wayne, IN, collaborated to simplify LP's supply chain operations, which ships from 20 plants to a wide customer base and large number of inventory locations.
Instead of a manual tracking system that wasted time and money, LP now has an automated solution that gives end-to-end visibility of orders, shipments and inventory.

TransWorks, an IBM Advanced Partner, provided LP with the Transportation Management- Supply Chain Execution Solution. The new system, deployed on IBM Informix Dynamic Server and IBM Tivoli Storage Manager software running on IBM Power Systems servers, transports messages and automatically processes load offerings to LP’s carriers and tracks the progress of each load, while maintaining constant integrated communications between the carriers and shippers.

“With this new process, we’ve built a strong foundation of capabilities that allows us to focus our attention on delivering better, more consistent service to customers,” said Neil Sherman, Vice President of LP Procurement, Supply Chain & Logistics. “The Transportation Management- Supply Chain Execution Solution has enabled us to provide our carrier partners and operations team control across all levels of our supply chain to meet our clients' needs.”

Through this solution, LP has achieved greater control, visibility and optimization of its inbound supply and outbound fulfillment processes as well as its overall supply chain. Today, through the automated solution, LP has enhanced the management of workloads and improved overall supply chain and operational productivity by 75 percent.

“In order to succeed in today’s global marketplace and deliver value to consumers, supply chain decision makers must gain better control over supply chain operations,” said Susan Confort, Vice President of IBM Systems and Technology Global Industry Solutions & Marketing. “As IBM continues to develop powerful innovative technologies, we look forward to collaborating with IBM Business Partners who have the expertise to deliver greater value, control and innovation that matters to our clients in the retail and industrial sectors.”

"We look forward to working with IBM as it continues to provide Business Partners with the tools and capabilities needed to help clients solve complex IT challenges," said Tim Minnich, president of TransWorks. “TransWorks is excited to have Louisiana-Pacific as a new customer, and look forward to serving them for many years to come. IBM and Singapore Economic Development Board Collaborate to Launch Analytics-Based Supply Chain Center

Press release:

IBM and Singapore Economic Development Board Collaborate to Launch Analytics-Based Supply Chain Center

Collaboration will launch a new analytics-based supply chain center, the newest in IBM’s growing network of global supply chain analytics hubs
SINGAPORE - 16 Aug 2012: IBM (NYSE: IBM) and the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) have collaborated to launch a new center dedicated to developing analytics-based technologies in order to help organisations improve their supply chains.
IBM Smarter Supply Chain Analytics Center of Competency
Representatives from IBM and Singapore Economic Development celebrate the opening of the IBM Supply Chain Analytics Center of Competency
The IBM Supply Chain Analytics Center of Competency (CoC) in Singapore will work to help enhance the region's supply chain expertise and develop global software and hardware supply chain solutions based on business analytics technologies. The goal is to help clients in retail and industrial sectors gain greater insight from Big Data, further drive operational effectiveness and efficiency and connect to digitally savvy consumers.
IBM Supply Chain Analytics CoC Singapore is IBM's first supply chain, analytics-focused center in Singapore and will work closely with IBM architects at IBM's existing network of supply chain analytic centers in India and its operations in the United States (Raleigh, NC). Supply chain analytics help companies synchronise customer demand with their sales and marketing operations, which in turn can transform how they buy supplies and market, sell and service customer requests.
Located in one of the world's fastest growing regions, the center will focus on developing analytics and cloud computing technologies for the Asia Pacific region and around the world. IBM scientists from the company's three centers will collaborate with Singapore research and educational institutes on technical exchanges, joint research and commercialisation projects.
"With the explosion of big data, enterprises across all industries are looking for ways to gain greater, more accurate insight into their businesses," said Fran O'Sullivan, general manager, IBM Integrated Supply Chain. "We look forward to collaborating with the Singapore EDB to develop innovative technologies to advance the supply chain industry, worldwide."
The agreement represents IBM's continued global investment in extending its global leadership in business analytics.
With instant access to product pricing, promotional information and communities of like-minded friends to advise them, today’s consumers are reshaping the way businesses market and deliver goods and services. Analytics is the tool that helps clients in the industrial sector connect to consumers in new ways, to deliver value to consumers, synchronize supply to demand to gain better control over disruptions, gain greater cost savings and connect to the front offices of sales and marketing programs to deliver the right products to customers with speed and relevancy.
“Data is fast becoming a new “natural resource” for Singapore. We are pleased that IBM has chosen Singapore to set up its Supply Chain Analytics CoC, as this will help build up our bench strength in data analytics, an important capability critical for unlocking the value of data”, said Jayson Goh, Executive Director, Infocomms & Media, Singapore EDB.
IBM Smarter Analytics
In addition to IBM's three supply chain centers, IBM has eight global analytics solution centers in Berlin, Beijing, Dallas, London, New York, Tokyo, Washington and Zurich. Many of the supply chain methods and technologies at work today for IBM clients, were pioneered by IBM's very own Integrated Supply Chain. Today, IBM's supply chain analytic technologies generate significant savings annually for the company.
IBM projects USD16 billion in business analytics revenue by 2015. To meet that target, IBM has established the world’s deepest portfolio of analytics solutions; grown its business and industry expertise to almost 9,000 dedicated business analytics and optimization consultants and 400 researchers.

15 Large Corporations Seek to Bolster U.S. Economy by Providing Access to $300 Billion in Supply Chain Spending to Small Businesses

Fifteen Large Corporations Seek to Bolster U.S. Economy by Providing Access to $300 Billion in Supply Chain Spending to Small Businesses

Small Businesses Gain New Contracts, Grow Business

New York - 22 Mar 2012: Fifteen large corporations today announced that thousands of small businesses have a new way to do business with them, giving them access to the $300 billion that these corporations spend annually on goods and services. (#connectbiz)
Small businesses, which are catalyst for the U.S. economy now have access to the supply chains of these 15 corporations by introducing them to a free Web site called Supplier Connection. This portal is similar to the Universal College Application, where a potential vendor need only fill out simplified forms once to be considered for many types of contracts for goods and services.  Through the platform, small businesses can offer their goods and services to many large enterprises with the goal of winning contracts, growing their business and creating jobs. The website was created and is maintained by IBM through a grant of more than $10 million from the IBM International Foundation.
Small Business Job Growth in the United States
In New York City, Stanley Litow (left), President of the IBM International Foundation and Small Business Administration (SBA) Administrator Karen Mills (right) sign an agreement to launch Supplier Connection.
“A recent national study revealed that within two years of winning a contract with a large company, small businesses doubled their workforce. Clearly by streamlining access to large company spending, we can help more small businesses create jobs,” said Stanley S. Litow, IBM Vice President of Corporate Citizenship and President of its Foundation. “By reducing complexity and offering access to spending by a group of large companies, Supplier Connection will help small businesses grow and improve their bottom line. The clear benefit to large companies is the access to the creativity and innovation of small businesses.”
Currently there are nearly 1,000 small businesses registered in the Supplier Connection program with more than 250 large company buyers actively searching for potential suppliers across 20 categories. One small business that has found success using the platform is Bottini Fuel, a provider of heating oil, propane, heating and air conditioning services based in New York’s Hudson Valley. Seeking to expand their commercial sales channel, small business owner Rick Bottini joined Supplier Connection to take advantage of the streamlined application process. Bottini Fuel became a new supplier to IBM’s operations in Poughkeepsie, New York providing fuel and service to power 24 backup power generators used at the 400-acre site where IBM’s mainframes are developed and manufactured.
"Becoming a supplier to a global business like IBM is something most small businesses envision as a daunting task," said Rick Bottini, Owner of Bottini Fuel based in Wappingers Falls, New York. "Using Supplier Connection we were able to establish a relationship with IBM and respond to their request for competitive bids in a timely manner. Having access to a powerful tool like Supplier Connection levels the playing field for a small business while helping save us valuable time and resources."
Small business owner, Kurt Peterson, joined Supplier Connection less than one year ago and recently secured a contract through the Supplier Connection portal. “It is a resource that U.S. small businesses need,” said Peterson, president of Puritan Press, a printing and publishing company based in Hollis, New Hampshire. “With Supplier Connection, Puritan Press can now have increased visibility by the procurement offices of large corporations. Now, with a win through Supplier Connection, we look forward to increasing our revenue, strengthening our long-term business strategy and possibly expanding our employee base to meet business demands.”
Recognizing the possible impact this program could have on job growth among small businesses, Supplier Connection has doubled the number of large businesses in the initiative. New large companies to the consortium include: AMD (NYSE: AMD), Caterpillar (NYSE: CAT), Dell (NASDAQ DELL), Facebook, John Deere (NYSE: DE), JP Morgan/Chase (NYSE: JPM), Kellogg Company (NYSE: K), Office Depot (NYSE: ODP), and Wells Fargo (NYSE: WFC). These companies join founding members of the group: AT&T (NYSE: T), Bank of America (NYSE: BAC), Citigroup (NYSE: C), IBM (NYSE: IBM), Pfizer (NYSE: PFE), and UPS (NYSE: UPS). Currently, the members of Supplier Connection purchase more than $300 billion in goods and services annually through their global supply chains.
The Supplier Connection program is a free program for both small businesses and large businesses. In addition to its one-stop registration capabilities, the portal enables small suppliers to learn from, collaborate with, and partner with each other so that they can become more competitive and successful in a bid with a large company.
About Supplier Connection: Supplier Connection is a cloud-based platform that makes it easy for small business to become recognized as potential suppliers to large companies and for large companies to identify small companies with whom they would do business. Customer Experience & Growth

News Press Release
Optic 2000 Focuses on Customer Experience and Growth With Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 for Retail
France’s leading eyewear-maker chooses Microsoft’s ERP solution for its usability, ease of maintenance and flexibility for future growth. Its objective: to unify its IT solution at 1,850 points of sale.
ISSY-LES-MOULINEAUX, France — March 20, 2012 — The Optic 2000 group, with more than 1,850 specialty stores for eyewear and hearing devices, has chosen Microsoft Corp.’s enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 for Retail, to manage its sales, supply and inventory across its entire network of operations in France. Usability, simple maintenance, functional excellence and ease of upgrading are the key advantages that led to the company’s strategic decision to adopt the Microsoft business solution.
“The choice of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 for Retail is part of a comprehensive strategic vision for our company, which sees Microsoft as a key partner for stability, trust and innovation. Our objective is to streamline our resource management with this ERP solution, to deliver a real value proposition to our customers — through the advice and support we offer during the sales process and beyond, as well as by ensuring we are offering real value for the money,” said Didier Papaz, CEO of the Optic 2000 group. “We counted on our IT department to find a unified solution that was innovative and easy for our employees to use. The solution needed to transform IT into a genuine asset for our company, as a way of managing sales and inventory as well as the specifics related to all our lines of business.”
“We are excited about the partnership established between Microsoft Dynamics and Optic 2000, who clearly have a vision for the future and are working to offer the best possible level of customer service,” said Michael Griffiths, global product director for retail, Microsoft Business Solutions. “Microsoft is all in when it comes to retail — from our stores and consumer devices to the customer already running Microsoft Dynamics AX for Retail in more than 30 countries. We are taking that investment to the next level with Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 for Retail and customers such as Optic 2000.”
Unify, Simplify and Look to the Future
With more than 1,850 stores (cooperatives, franchises and outlets) whose tools were no longer simple and effective to use and which were not able respond to industry developments, Optic 2000 was looking to adopt a unified and easy-to-use solution that could be adapted to the needs of each outlet. After extensive research, the team abandoned the idea of an eyewear-specific ERP solution in order to benefit from the power and flexibility of Microsoft solutions. Over and above the stability, the performance, the ease of maintenance and the wealth of functionality, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 for Retail distinguished itself as an innovative and open ERP solution, ideal for developing new tools specific to the eyewear industry.
“We wanted a single solution that was easier to manage and that allowed us to optimize the quality of services provided by our IT department to our users,” said Patrick Seux, director of organization and IT of the Optic 2000 group. “By using Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 for Retail, we can regularly update the entire system, all the applications on all the workstations. We also wanted to manage, archive and share our data from each point of sale. The data will remain specific to each outlet, but their security features will be centralized. In addition, the Microsoft solution allows us to look to a future in which we will be able to confidently access data on the go from mobile devices and heterogeneous point-of-sale terminals, and this for a price lower than that of the solution currently in place.”
An Agile and Flexible ERP Solution
Beyond the standard ERP functions of purchasing, inventory and pricing, Optic 2000 wanted to manage requirements that are specific to the optical sector. Glasses and lenses sold by prescription are constrained by prescription management, reimbursement, health insurance and third-party payer regulations. The supply of technical products, such as custom-made lenses, is also particularly complex to manage. This is why Optic 2000 has entrusted Prodware to develop complementary solutions specific to its industry, leveraging the adaptability of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 for Retail.
“Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 for Retail brings us longevity, flexibility and ability to upgrade our technology, which are fundamental for enabling us to anticipate changes in the marketplace, whether in terms of in-store sales techniques or consumer buying preferences,” said Yves Guénin, secretary general of Optic 2000 group.
Founded in 1975, Microsoft (Nasdaq “MSFT”) is the worldwide leader in software, services and solutions that help people and businesses realize their full potential.
