Suspected Bank Robber Arrested

Stephen D. Anthony, special agent in Charge of the FBI, Cleveland Division, Northern District of Ohio, and Steven Dettelbach, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, announce the arrest of Cortez K.D. Williams for the bank robberies at Huntington Bank.

On March 27, 2015 at approximately 4:53 p.m., an unknown suspect entered the Huntington Bank at 230 West Cedar Street, Ravenna, Ohio, approached the teller counter and wanted to withdraw some money. The suspect then withdrew a handwritten note on notebook paper from his front pocket that read, “2 min, got gun, no dye bag.” Once receiving an undisclosed amount of cash from the teller, the suspect fled on foot.

On September 23, 2015 at approximately 4:12 p.m., an unknown suspect entered the Huntington Bank at 230 West Cedar Street, Ravenna, Ohio, approached the teller counter and told the teller he wanted to withdraw money before handing the teller a note that read, “Give me the money have a gun.” Once receiving an undisclosed amount of cash from the teller, the suspect fled on foot.

On October 2, 2015 at approximately 5:10 p.m., an unknown suspect entered the Huntington Bank at 1045 Trump Road, Carrollton, Ohio, approached the teller counter and asked the teller what he needed to make a withdrawal. When the teller asked for identification, the subject pulled a note out of his pocket and handed it to the teller. The note read, “give me the money now (gun).” Once receiving an undisclosed amount of cash from the teller, the suspect fled the bank.

At approximately 9 a.m. today, agents from the Cleveland Division of the FBI, Akron and Canton Resident Agencies, along with officers from the Carrollton Police Department and the Stark County Safe Streets Task Force placed Williams into custody at his residence. This investigation was worked jointly by the FBI, Carrollton Police Department, the Ravenna Police Department, and the Stark County Safe Streets Task Force.

A complaint is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. The defendants are entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
