Machine-to-Machine Technology get Visible: AT&T and Axeda to Offer Wireless Console to Better Manage Global M2M Connections

Government Contractor Manages Thousands of Global Assets in Real-Time
Dallas, Texas, February 26, 2013

AT&T and Axeda are now making it easier for businesses to remotely manage and monitor their global machine-to-machine connections with a new central reporting wireless console available with the AT&T M2M Application Platform powered by Axeda.

SAIC, a FORTUNE 500® scientific, engineering, and technology applications company, is utilizing one platform for easier activation and deactivation of device SIMs, better management of security plans with real-time remote asset alerts and alarms, and application extension through the use of SIM-based logic.

For SAIC, this means assets from around the world can be viewed and managed from their U.S. facilities via a highly-secure cloud service that includes the AT&T high speed mobile network with global roaming, and the AT&T M2M Application Platform powered by Axeda.  The AT&T and Axeda integration allows for highly secure communication from wireless devices to the Axeda Machine Cloud and to customer systems.

“We are able to authenticate, locate and track our assets as they move through potentially dangerous areas,” said George Walther-Meade, a client services director at SAIC.  “We have the ability to detect and control asset activity across broad geographies and to set advanced alerting and alarms on one or even 1,000 devices. This real-time visibility improves security and asset management, benefitting our machines, processes and decisions.”

Making M2M connectivity easy to manage and monitor in real-time for our customers is key,” said Chris Hill, Senior Vice President, Advanced Solutions, AT&T Business Solutions. “Our collaboration with Axeda is a great example of our connected vision at work in the field, impacting how a company can monitor assets no matter where they are in the world.”

Developed to allow governments and business of all sizes to take control of connected products and assets, the wireless console is available now in Axeda 6.5.  The Axeda Machine Cloud provides advanced cloud-based software for managing connected products and implementing innovative M2M applications.

“We have evolved our market-leading portfolio to meet our customers’ needs to take control of their connected product initiatives,” said Bill Zujewski, executive vice president for strategy and product marketing at Axeda.  “Our latest offering is another step to provide customers with everything they need to transform the way they interact and receive value from connected assets.”

In a recent Analysys Mason report, “M2M scorecard for communications service providers: 2012[1],” AT&T tied for the highest score and is ranked as an Industry icon. The report noted “AT&T received top scores in M2M partnerships, M2M R&D and M2M organizational structure. AT&T has excelled in crafting its partnership strategy and internal organization. Its R&D focus – both in core research and solution development – is superlative.”

AT&T is a global leader in providing M2M solutions that includes network, specialized devices, connected device management, application development, integration, professional services and lifecycle solutions management.
