Alcoa Announces Winners of 2012 Core Carrier Awards
KNOXVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Alcoa (NYSE:AA) announced the winners of its 2012 North America Core Carrier Awards Program.

Commenting on the program, Tim Reyes, President of Alcoa Materials Management, said, “The core carrier awards represent a successful partnership that has been developed with our top transportation providers in North America. The carriers we are recognizing have best met the criteria established to insure the needs of Alcoa facilities.”

Ed Hamorsky, Director of Logistics and Transportation added, “This program continues to drive more intimate business alignment and trust between Alcoa and the core carriers that serve our plants. We continue to put a lot of focus on deploying effective sourcing and execution strategies to reduce our transportation spend. Many of the successes we have realized the past few years are linked to creative solutions offered by our core carriers.”

United Parcel Service won the Alcoa Advantage in TransportationAward. The award recognizes a carrier who leverages resources beyond traditional transportation industry boundaries to deliver significant benefits to Alcoa.

For the second consecutive year, Hapag-Lloyd of Hamburg, Germany captured Alcoa’s ocean carrier of the year award for best-in-class export and import container service for North America. All of Alcoa’s core ocean carriers received recognition plaques for their service during 2012.

CMI Freight-Trans, of Chicago, Illinois, earned recognition as Alcoa’s leading intermodal distribution provider. The company continues to innovate and offer solutions to capture additional Alcoa business.

USA Truck of Van Buren, Arkansas, enjoyed their inauguration as Alcoa’s Tier 1 carrier of the year for outstanding dry van service in North America. TMC Transportation of Des Moines, Iowa, earned their 5th consecutive carrier of the year award for exemplary flatbed service. Remorquage St-Michel, Inc. of St-Michel, Canada, won the Canadian carrier of the year award for a 6th straight year by providing superior truckload service between the U.S. and Canada and within the provinces. Alcoa’s 14 Tier 1 carriers handled ~50% of Alcoa’s North America motor carrier business.

The 10 carriers participating in the Tier 2 group carried approximately 23% of Alcoa’s truckload freight in 2012. Mawson & Mawson of Langhorne, Pennsylvania was a first-time winner in the flatbed category. Oberg Freight Company, of Ft. Dodge, Iowa won its 3rd straight carrier of the year award in the dry van category.

During the awards dinner, Michael Baird, National Sales Fleet Manager for Alcoa’s Wheel and Transportation Products, presented market data to the attending carriers regarding aluminum transportation applications for their equipment.
