HP Streamlines HUD Housing Discrimination Complaints with New Mobile Application
PALO ALTO, Calif. — HP Enterprise Services today announced that it has developed a mobile application for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
The new application allows citizens to easily access useful information regarding housing discrimination, file complaints with HUD and find regional contact information via their iPhone.
Working together with HUD and its Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity (FHEO), HP developed the Housing Discrimination Complaint Application, which will be one of the first mobile applications released to the public by HUD. The application is now available to the public on the App StoreSM and accessible on Apple devices such as the iPhone, iPad®, and iPod touch®. HUD also plans to release an Android version of the application.
Specifically designed to streamline and simplify interaction with the public, the application provides the FHEO with a channel to reach citizens.
“We are pleased to work with HP to create the first federal civil rights complaint mobile application,” said John Trasviña, assistant secretary, Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. “We are maximizing 21st-century technology to promote understanding and enforcement of our fair housing laws and help our civil rights and housing industry partners know their rights and responsibilities under the Fair Housing Act.”
The application is a first step in extending HUD computing solutions from the desktop to mobile devices of all types. It also enables HUD to fulfill the digital strategy requirements set by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for developing mobile technologies.
“HUD needed an efficient and reliable solution to quickly extend existing capabilities to mobile computing devices,” said Marilyn Crouther, senior vice president and general manager, U.S. Public Sector, HP Enterprise Services. “The new HP application achieves operational goals of HUD—from concept to deployment—while more effectively addressing discrimination complaints. The mobile app simplifies and increases access to government services for people.”
