Government of Catalonia Awards HP $67 Million Contract for Transformation to the Cloud

HP to modernize Catalonian and Spanish community’s computing environment to improve service to citizens and lower costs
BARCELONA, Spain — HP Enterprise Services Spain today announced that Generalitat de Catalunya (CTTI), the Government of Catalonia, has signed a $67 million agreement for HP to transform the government’s computing environment to a cloud-based infrastructure so it can operate more efficiently while improving services to its citizens.
Under the terms of the 10-year contract, HP will move CTTI’s infrastructure from a dedicated client-owned data center to a secure, HP-managed cloud environment. HP will continue managing the organization’s computing environment while migrating it to a virtual private cloud located in Barcelona, Spain. HP is expanding its managed cloud services to Spain as an extension of the HP Enterprise Cloud Services network already deployed in other European countries.
HP Enterprise Cloud Services – Virtual Private Cloud creates a flexible, secure computing environment that allows CTTI to quickly scale use up and down as needed. HP Enterprise Cloud Services – Virtual Private Cloud is a managed cloud environment that enables interoperability with other cloud and traditional IT architectures.
As a result of its cloud transformation, CTTI will be able to respond more rapidly to changes in citizens’ service demands, and quickly deploy new services to Catalonian citizens and companies. The HP solution supports e-government business processes such as SAP’s financial and purchasing platform. The user portal feature will enable provisioning of infrastructure to support content management for governmental departments and the presidency’s data as well as easy-to-access capacity for other departments.
“The ability for a government to move from fixed assets and costs to a flexible model enables greater agility and innovation,” said Enrique Solbes, general manager, Enterprise Services Iberia, HP. “This transformation for CTTI leverages HP’s proven cloud portfolio and broad expertise in technology consulting to provide the right balance of standardization and flexibility.”
HP currently provides a variety of IT Infrastructure Outsourcing Services and Applications Services to the Government of Catalonia.
HP’s premier EMEA client event, HP Discover, takes place Dec. 10-12 in Barcelona, Spain.
