Prudential’s ranking on Civic 50 is a reflection of company culture and commitment to talent
Prudential was recently named to The Civic 50, an annual list that honors the 50 most community-minded companies in the nation as compiled by Points of Light in partnership with Bloomberg LP.
“Our recognition as a Civic 50 company is a reflection of our legacy of helping people and communities achieve financial security and peace of mind. Prudential is, and always has been, a company with a clear social purpose,” says Lata Reddy, vice president of corporate social responsibility at Prudential and president of The Prudential Foundation. “By using Prudential’s full range of resources, we are developing tailored, long-lasting solutions for underserved individuals, families and communities.”
According to Sekhar Ramaswamy, chief talent officer for Prudential, there is also a direct connection to leadership and talent excellence. "Community service projects provide opportunities for employees to develop their technical and leadership skills," notes Ramaswamy. "Beyond that, our civic efforts support us in recruiting and retaining top talent. More and more, people want to work in a values-driven culture. Giving back to the community is a deeply ingrained aspect of our company that helps set us apart as an employer."
Demonstrating Prudential’s community focus, Gillian Parascandola, a vice president with Prudential Retirement, completed a five-month pro bono consulting project with Pooka Pure and Simple, a bath and body product shop, helping implement operational efficiencies, develop marketing plans and enhance the website. Parascandola was one of 14 Prudential volunteers who partnered with the Institute for Entrepreneurial Leadership to help small-business owners in Newark, N.J. strengthen their companies and enhance their future viability.
“Volunteering with Pooka Pure and Simple afforded me the opportunity to flex my leadership, communication and business development skills in new ways that resulted in benefits for both the owner and for me,” explains Parascandola. “As a leader, one of the most rewarding experiences is helping someone succeed, and helping a small business get to the next level was exciting and inspiring. The knowledge that Prudential encourages these efforts, not only from a business but also from a volunteer perspective, continues to motivate me every day."
