WellPoint Receives Award for Healthcare Education Efforts in the Hispanic Community
NHMA names WellPoint for Corporate Hispanic Health Leadership Award

INDIANAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Apr. 1, 2014-- WellPoint, Inc., (NYSE: WLP) announced today that it has received the Corporate Hispanic Health Leadership Award from the National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA) for its work in educating the Hispanic community on the Affordable Care Act.

NHMA recognized WellPoint, for their proactive efforts in helping to enroll uninsured Hispanics in their communities. According to NHMA officials, as the fasting growing minority group, it’s imperative to build partnerships that will help address the growing health challenges faced by Hispanics across the country.

“Our Hispanic Health Initiative supports community needs and reduces health disparities,” said Dr. Sam Nussbaum, chief medical officer for WellPoint. “Our hands-on outreach program targets five states, including CaliforniaNew York,ColoradoGeorgia and Virginia. Additionally through our Amerigroup subsidiary we are serving a large number of Hispanics beyond our 14 Blue states.”
