CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (April 23, 2014) – Rockwell Collins is heading to the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis this week to cheer on thousands of student teams from around the world competing at the 2014 FIRST® Championship. The event takes place April 23-26, and is the culmination of the season’s FIRST programs, bringing together the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC®) Championship, theFIRST Tech Challenge (FTC®) World Championship, and the FIRST LEGO® League (FLL®) World Festival.
Rockwell Collins is a FIRST strategic partner and is on its fifth year as the official program sponsor for FTC. FIRST serves as the anchor of Rockwell Collins Engineering Experiences program which offers students of all ages the opportunity to take part in experiences designed to take learning out of the textbooks and place it in their hands.

At this year’s event, Rockwell Collins CEO and President Kelly Ortberg, who is also a member of the FIRST Board of Directors, will be participating in the activities. Of the 550+ teams that were sponsored by Rockwell Collins this year, ten qualified for the World Championship. Ortberg will be meeting personally with the following teams while in St. Louis:

This award celebrates a team that thinks outside the box and also has the ingenuity and inventiveness to make its designs come to life. The award is given to the team with the most innovative and creative robot design solution to any or all specific field elements or components in the FTC game.
“The energy and enthusiasm at this event is unbelievable,” said Mattai. “Students from all over the world show how a love of math, science and engineering can be fun. Our goal is to keep those students interested and inspired throughout their schooling to create a strong pipeline of engineering talent.”

Rockwell Collins will also have an exhibit at the event featuring the company’s latest products, such as its touch screen Pro Line Fusion® integrated avionics flight deck,Venue™ cabin management and entertainment system for business jets, and the latest in heat sensor and display technologies. The company will also be hosting a daily HGS™ Flight tournament. Participants will compete for highest score on the company’s iPad® head-up display simulation application.
