Horace L. Blackman Joins Lockheed Martin as Vice President of Health and Life Sciences

ROCKVILLE, Md., March 25, 2014 -- Lockheed Martin Corporation [NYSE: LMT] named Horace L. Blackman as the new vice president of health and life sciences for its Information Systems & Global Solutions (IS&GS) business.

Blackman brings vast experience delivering innovative services in the federal healthcare, information technology and competitive markets. He most recently served as the chief information officer and director of information technology support service for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Central Office, as well as senior advisor to the Assistant Secretary for Information Technology and the Undersecretary for Benefits at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

The health and life sciences program supports customers including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services; the Department of Health and Human Services; the Social Security Administration; the Food and Drug Administration; Veterans Affairs and various state and local health clients.

Prior to joining the VA in 2008, Blackman spent 20 years in information technology strategy planning in the private sector. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from George Mason University, double majoring in American studies and English. He earned a Master of Business Administration in management from the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia.

Federal Computer Week named him a 2014 Federal 100 Award winner for his virtualization initiative that significantly reduced costs at the VA. Other recognitions include ComputerWorld magazine’s 100 IT leaders in 2013, the Project Management Award for Green IT from the Association for Federal Information Resources Management and the Project Management Award for Green IT from the Government Information Technology Executive Council (GITEC).  Blackman is currently president of GITEC, a role held since 2009.
