UnitedHealth Group Press Release:

Los Angeles Dodgers, UnitedHealthcare Participate In "Days Of Service And Play" In Los Angeles
  • Dodgers alumni and staff and nearly 200 volunteers from UnitedHealthcare to participate in service activities at eight "Dodgers Community of Schools" campuses
  • Volunteer projects with Playworks and the Los Angeles Conservation Corps to beautify playgrounds and bring the power of play to more than 2,000 kids

LOS ANGELES (Oct. 18, 2013) —
Los Angeles Dodgers alumni and staff and nearly 200 UnitedHealthcare employees join today and Saturday in "Days of Service and Play" at eight "Dodgers Community of Schools" locations surrounding Dodger Stadium. Both organizations are working together to promote health and wellness and give children a clean, safe place to play at their schools.
The eight Dodgers Community of School locations include Allessandro, Ann Street, Castelar, Clifford Street, Dorris Place, Elysian Heights, Logan and Solano. Volunteers will meet at Dodger Stadium and will be assigned service projects at each of the elementary schools.
Volunteer activities vary at each school, but are divided into two service categories: recreational play and school beautification. Representatives from Playworks are working with volunteers to bring the power of play to the schools by playing four square, catch and jump rope with the children. The Los Angeles Conservation Corps is leading school-beautification projects, which include cleaning of playgrounds, landscaping and restriping of play areas.
The Los Angeles Dodgers' "Community of Schools" is a partnership effort that focuses on student achievement, health & wellness and recreation through educational programs, civic engagement, strategic partnerships and student incentives.
"The Dodgers are happy to be able to assist the community in any way possible," said Stan Kasten, President, Los Angeles Dodgers. "Being able to help our youngest fans through the 'Dodgers Community of Schools' program is one of the initiatives we're most proud of."
"We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with the Dodgers to help build a healthier community and provide children in Los Angeles the tools to live healthier, more active lives," said Brandon Cuevas, CEO, UnitedHealthcare of California.
This project is the latest in UnitedHealthcare's "Do Good. Live Well." employee volunteer initiative, whose mission is to prevent hunger and obesity, inspire service and encourage volunteerism in communities where UnitedHealthcare employees live and work.
