United Technologies Research Centre Ireland leads Clean Sky 2 contract

LONDON, Oct. 22, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- United Technologies Research Centre Ireland Limited (UTRC Ireland), the European research hub of United Technologies Research Center (UTRC), announced today its lead in the MISSION project under the European Union's Clean Sky 2 program. The announcement was made at the Aerodays2015 conference, an event that is highlighting the success of European aerospace research and development funding.
UTRC serves as the research and innovation arm of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).
MISSION, an 11.2 million euro program, funds the development of new, integrated modelling, simulation and optimization tools to incorporate Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) in all stages of aircraft design and development. The project's results will lead to a common modelling and simulation framework for applications in various technology developments within the Clean Sky 2 Systems Integrated Technology Demonstrator (ITD), and will support the integration and demonstration of such technologies through virtual tests. The Systems ITD, led by Liebherr and Thales, is developing and building highly integrated, high TRL demonstrators across major aircraft systems.
Collaborating with UTRC Ireland in the program are: UTRC's Advanced Laboratory for Embedded Systems Srl (ALES) in Rome, Italy; UTC Aerospace Systems (UTAS); and German companies dSPACE and ITI.

Clean Sky 2, the contracting body awarding funding for the MISSION project, seeks to deliver cutting-edge technology for integration into the next generations of aircraft from 2025 onward. The initiative stems from the Horizon 2020 program: an 80 billion euro European Union (EU) Research and Innovation program driving economic growth and research breakthroughs in Europe.
