Boys & Girls Clubs of MetroWest's 'Science of Sports' Science Fair team one of a handful of teams from across the country to be honored
WALTHAM, Mass., May 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The White House will host three participants in the Raytheon / New England Patriots "Science of Sports" competition at its annual Science Fair on Tuesday, May 27, which highlights science projects from students across the nation. Youth representing Boys & Girls Clubs of MetroWest's Hudson Clubhouse are Brooke Bohn (14), Daisuaghn Bass (13) and Gerard McManus (13). This year's White House Science Fair will focus on girls and women who are excelling in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and inspiring the next generation with their work.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of MetroWest's Hudson Clubhouse 'Catapult Court CEOs' team's project focuses on the science behind making the perfect shot in basketball. The seven-member team also includes Aayana Bass (15), Marissa Cecca (11), Colleen O'Malley (11), and Leo Santos (14). The 2014 competition, which features teams from Boys & Girls Clubs across New England, will take place on June 1 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.
Raytheon and the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation team up each year with the Boys & Girls Clubs of New England to host the program. This year, 90 Raytheon volunteers mentored more than 150 students over five months to design projects that explore the math and science embedded in competitive sports.
Science of Sports is one of many education programs included in Raytheon's MathMovesU® STEM education initiative to cultivate interest among young people in math and science and to encourage them to obtain the skills needed to drive U.S. technology leadership.
