Oracle Introduces New x86 Servers
New Sun Server X4 Systems Offer Outstanding Performance and Reliability for Oracle Software
Redwood Shores, Calif. – October 3, 2013
News Summary
Designed for high performance, reliability and eco-responsibility, Oracle’s new two-socket Sun Server X4 systems can deliver the versatility to address clustered computing and virtualization as well as the full spectrum of enterprise applications. With Oracle’s new x86 servers, customers can increase application performance, reduce operating expenses and improve IT productivity running Oracle software on Oracle hardware.
News Facts
Oracle today announced new x86 servers, based on the latest Intel® Xeon® processors E5-2600 v2 product family.
Oracle’s new Sun Server X4-2 and Sun Server X4-2L have set a SPECjEnterprise2010 world record for the best result achieved on a two-socket x86 server. Running Oracle WebLogic Server 12c and Oracle Database 12c on Oracle Linux, the Sun Server X4-2 delivered 11,259 EjOps(1).
Available now, Oracle’s new Sun Server X4-2, Sun Server X4-2L and Sun Blade X4-2Bsystems are ideal for a broad range of mission-critical business workloads, such as database, middleware and enterprise business workloads in virtualized environments, as well as high-density, clustered computing in an enterprise cloud environment.
The new x86 servers demonstrate Oracle’s continued strategy of designing state-of-the-art x86 offerings that are specifically engineered to serve as a foundation for Oracle software for both stand-alone systems as well as within Oracle Engineered Systems.
Oracle’s new x86 servers deliver up to 50 percent more compute power(2) in the same power profile as the previous generation, making them among the most efficient x86 servers for Oracle software and other enterprise applications.
Oracle’s x86 servers, Oracle Solaris, Oracle Linux and Oracle VM are engineered, tested, deployed and supported together, resulting in unparalleled reliability, availability and serviceability.
Oracle’s x86 servers offer additional customer value, allowing a choice of Oracle Solaris, Oracle Linux and Oracle VM at no extra cost. They also provide complete stack management with Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c Ops Center at no additional cost with Oracle Premier Support services.
Oracle’s x86 servers also include built-in server management tools, which can help customers reduce system administration cost and complexity.
Oracle Integrated Lights Out Manager (ILOM) offers secure, comprehensive local and remote power management, monitoring, fault detection and notification
Oracle System Assistant guides system administrators through rapid server deployment, firmware updates, hardware configuration, and operating system installation with Oracle certified hardware drivers.
Oracle’s new x86 servers also feature Oracle Advanced System Cooling, which uses cooling zones to help maximize airflow at lower fan speeds while minimizing power consumption to allow customers to achieve efficiencies and lower cost.
Paired with Oracle storage, like the recently announced world-record setting ZS3 Series,Oracle x86 servers can provide faster application startup, performance for thousands of virtual machines per storage system and the ability to accelerate time-to-insight.
Additionally, with Oracle Premier Support for Servers customers gain comprehensive coverage with single-point accountability and problem resolution for Oracle servers, operating systems, and software.
