Johnson Controls introduces industry’s most energy-efficient heat pump for commercial buildings in China

Johnson Controls Press Release:

Johnson Controls introduces industry’s most energy-efficient heat pump for commercial buildings in China
New packaged heat pump cuts operating costs and carbon dioxide emissions, boosts comfort
SHANGHAI – (September 23, 2013) — Johnson Controls, a global leader in building technology and services, introduces a new commercial heat pump, the YORK® YSPA Air-to-Water reversible screw, to China. YSPA delivers the industry’s highest efficiency level and widest temperature range that lowers operating costs and the carbon dioxide emissions, while increasing comfort. Its compact size makes it ideal for a variety of industries, including shopping malls, hotels and hospitals.
The new product is the only heat pump of its size in China – from 175 to 450 tons of cooling capacity – able to reach an Energy Efficiency Ratio of 3.57.  This efficiency level qualifies YSPA for Chinese Energy Level Grade 1, which is an environmental labeling program that provides owners with a 10 percent tax reimbursement. YSPA is more sustainable because its high efficiency reduces carbon footprint and it uses the refrigerant R134a.
YSPA is able to operate under a wide range of ambient temperature conditions – as low as -11°C for heating and as high as 52°C for cooling – making it suitable for a wide variety of climates. Stable leaving hot water temperatures of up to 55°C can be maintained by limiting defrost cycle frequency, duration and water temperature fluctuation.
Its innovative system is reliable and efficient during cooling, heating and the defrost operation. Design features include a middle pressure tank, step defrosting, ambient half-coil mounting design, cross functional hot gas injection and intelligent controls. These design features reduce cooling costs by up to 12 percent annually and 32 percent for heating.
YSPA was developed based on three decades of pioneering work in Air-to-Water Heat Pump technology by YORK®. Heat pumps offer an energy-efficient alternative to furnaces and boilers by using electricity to move heat rather than generate heat. The first packaged Air-to-Water Heat Pump in the industry was introduced by York in 1979. YORK® is a brand of Johnson Controls’ Building Efficiency business.  Johnson Controls is ranked 71st by Forbes on its World’s Most Innovative Companies list.
