Company Releases 2012 Corporate Responsibility Report

FALLS CHURCH, Va. – May 30, 2013 – Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) released its 2012 Corporate Responsibility Report (CRR), a comprehensive publication that highlights the company's ongoing commitment to corporate responsibility including environment sustainability, support for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education, community service and corporate philanthropy. It is the sixth year the company has published this report.
"The 2012 Corporate Responsibility Report once again demonstrates our commitment to our values and maintaining the highest ethical standards, embracing diversity and inclusion, striving for quality through compliance and innovation and continuing to enhance our environmental sustainability," said Wes Bush, chairman, chief executive officer and president. "In the past years, we have redoubled our efforts on performance, innovation and driving affordability for our customers – and the results have been excellent. We continue to apply that same focus to social and environmental responsibility, and we have experienced similar outcomes."
The Northrop Grumman CRR is produced consistent with the Global Reporting Initiative, a third-party organization that has developed a widely used environmental, social and governance reporting framework. The report is also evaluated by an independent external review panel.
"Maintaining a high level of corporate responsibility is part of our culture and our commitment to our stakeholders," said Sandra Evers-Manly, vice president, global corporate responsibility, Northrop Grumman, and president, Northrop Grumman Foundation. "This report is one of the ways we measure our efforts in social responsibility and I am very pleased with our progress."

In the area of diversity and inclusion, some highlights include:
  • Half of the company's college hires in the past four years have been women and people of color.
  • In 2012, more than 14,000 Northrop Grumman employees participated in employee resource groups, which play a key role in the diversity and inclusion strategy, assimilating and developing the workforce and leading community outreach efforts.
  • Last month Northrop Grumman was ranked 29th on the DiversityInc 2013 Top 50 list, the highest listed aerospace and defense company.
In the area of environmental responsibility:
  • We were awarded the 2012 Cool Planet Award for excellence in energy efficiency in the aerospace and defense category.
  • Named to the Carbon Performance Leadership Index, the top 10 percent of participating companies for exemplary performance related to climate change mitigation, adaptation and transparency.
  • Identified as a leader in the Maplecroft Climate Innovation Indexes, ranking 30th of 360 publicly listed companies.
And:
  • In 2012 we continued our efforts to expand and improve the pipeline of talented STEM students nationwide. Northrop Grumman, and our charitable giving organization, the Northrop Grumman Foundation, donated approximately $33.5 million to philanthropic organizations. Of that, approximately $22.8 million went to STEM-related groups.
