Emulex Leads 16Gb Fibre Channel Adapter Market

Press release:

Emulex Leads 16Gb Fibre Channel Adapter Market

Company Gains Over Four Points of Fibre Channel Market Share Over Nearest Competitor

COSTA MESA, Calif., August 15, 2012 – Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX) today announced that it leads the 16Gb Fibre Channel (16GFC) market with over 75 percent of the revenue market share according to both Dell'Oro Group's Q2 2012 Network Controller and Adapter report and Crehan Research's Q2 2012 Server-class Adapter and LOM market share report. In addition, the company gained over four points of overall Fibre Channel revenue market share over its nearest competitor according to the two research firms’ latest reports.

“The growth of the total data in the storage universe will nearly triple from 2.7 zettabytes in 2012 to more than 8 zettabytes by 2015, according to IDC,¹” said Shaun Walsh, senior vice president of marketing and corporate development, Emulex. “Given this level of continued data growth, we expect the demand for 16GFC bandwidth will accelerate the transition from 8GFC to 16GFC. Crehan Research share’s this view, predicting that 16GFC will represent 30 percent of the Fibre Channel server-class adapter ports by 2013, ² representing a 25 percent faster transition to 16GFC than the transition to 8GFC.²”

Emulex LightPulse® (LP)e16000 series of 16GFC Host Bus Adapters (HBAs) are optimized for cloud and virtualized environments, delivering more than a million IOPS on a single port3,while simplifying and streamlining server and storage SAN connectivity requirements, and cutting the response time by 75 percent compared to its 8GFC predecessor. ⁴Upgrading to these new Emulex 16GFC adapters is simple, with full backward compatibility with 4 and 8GFC adapters from Emulex, including a common driver stack and management tools across multiple generations. In addition to future proofing customer’s connectivity investment, Emulex 16GFC HBAs provide higher performance and lower latency even when running in 8GFC mode in an 8GFC environment, ⁴making Emulex 16GFC HBAs an ideal choice for customers looking to leverage their storage infrastructure investments into the future.
