GE Healthcare Highlights the Recently FDA-Cleared Discovery IGS 730 — A New Category of Interventional Imaging Systems — and Other Advancements at SIR
Discovery IGS 730 and Innova IGS 540 for OR Highlighted at Society for Interventional Radiology Annual Meeting
SAN FRANCISCO – March 26, 2012 – GE Healthcare announced the recent FDA clearance of a key advancement in interventional radiology at theSociety for Interventional Radiology (SIR)’s 37th Annual Scientific Meeting this week in San Francisco.
At the meeting, GE highlighted its recently FDA-cleared Discovery* IGS 730 system, the first interventional X-ray system designed to capture the advantages of both floor- and ceiling-mounted systems. Initially introduced at the RSNA 2011, the Discovery system was designed to address the trade-off departments have historically needed to make between ceiling- and floor-mounted systems, eliminating the need to compromise on patient access and image quality. The Discovery IGS 730 is a revolution in imaging. It is neither floor- nor ceiling-mounted, but enables full patient access without the need to suspend the system above the patient. It has the mobility of a C-arm with the power and image quality of a fixed system. This laser-guided, motorized mobile gantry creates an interventional environment without boundaries. It allows complete access to the patient and unlimited parking capability, while creating sterility for a flexible and secure OR environment. The unique gantry comes with a new wide bore design, which allows for steep angles, ease in 3D acquisition, especially for large patients.

At SIR, GE is also debuting its Innova* IGS 540 with OR option, to expand the use of its Innova imaging system in the hybrid OR setting. Thanks to a specifically designed table and accessories, the Innova IGS 540 OR enables both endovascular and open surgical procedures in the one room.
“In interventional radiology we are seeing a transformation, with both minimally-invasive and complex procedures being performed in new environments, especially in the OR,” said Chantal Le Chat, General Manager, Interventional Radiology, GE Healthcare – Detection & Guidance Solutions. “This change requires the development of technology that is versatile and adapts to the needs of the clinician – regardless of environment. With the availability of the Discovery IGS 730 and now the Innova IGS 540 OR, we are enabling clinicians with access to cutting-edge imaging in OR environments,” concluded Le Chat.
GE will also be highlighting the Innova IGS 630 — its next generation of interventional neuroradiology biplane X-ray imaging introduced earlier this year — at the conference. The Innova IGS 630 biplane reflects GE’s strong clinical focus and commitment to understanding the unique needs of each clinical specialty. With this introduction, we are offering a new generation of 3D imaging, new options and advanced applications that cater to interventional neuroradiology procedures.
The system features Innova CT HD[i], which brings 3D to the next level, and a comprehensive set of advanced applications for interventional neuroradiology. It also offers peace of mind through comprehensive dose management solutions and an enhanced end user experience for optimized workflow through customized display possibilities. These features are of particular importance in interventional neuroradiology procedures, which use minimally invasive image-based technologies to help physicians diagnose and treat diseases of the central nervous system, head, neck and spine.
