Instead of one of my usual (but awesome) presentations, I wrote some thoughts on a piece of paper and shared what I thought these businesses needed to know to align themselves for 2015. Sony execs turned to old BlackBerries from basement in wake of attack

Executives at Sony Pictures Entertainment turned to old-school security measures in a last-ditch attempt to keep corporate data private – digging out corporate BlackBerries found in a basement in California, Mashable reports.

Speaking to The Wall Street Journal , Michael Lynton, the CEO of Sony Entertainment switched to a ‘phone tree’ system where information was relayed person-to-person via mobile devices and private Gmail accounts rather than corporate ones.

Lilly Finalizes Novartis Animal Health Acquisition (NYSE:LLY)

INDIANAPOLIS, Jan. 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Eli Lilly and Company (NYSE: LLY) today announced that it has completed the acquisition of Novartis Animal Health, which will further position Lilly's Elanco as a global leader in the animal health industry. The transaction, first announced on April 22, has received clearance under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act. As part of the approval, certain animal health assets in the U.S. relating to the Sentinel^® canine parasiticide franchise will be divested to Virbac, as has been previously announced. All other closing conditions have also been met.

Hoping to relax on New Year's Day? Well if you or a family member is headed to college in 2015, that's too bad.

January 1 is the first day students can submit the nationwide financial aid application (known as FAFSA) for the upcoming school year. Applying early is hands down the best way to maximize the amount of money a student gets to put toward college.
